Since the transfer case is shifted via an electric motor there is not provision for mechanical linkage and I show not type of kit to convert the later cases.

  • Anonymous Jun 07, 2012

I have replaced that electric motor two times now in the last eight months. But when you pull the electric motor for the transfer case off there is a shaft were you slide the electric motor in and it looks like the same little shaft on the transfer case were you would connect a manuel shifter to it. Oh and by the way i have switched the transfer case manually with vice grips to align the new electric motor with the shaft of the transfer case. so i know there has to be ways of switching the transfer case manually i am just hoping some one makes a kit or if anyone has any ideas of getting parts from a wrecking yard for it and how i would fool the computer to shut the service 4wd light off. thanks for looking at my question dennis

SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 p0758 Won't shift

P0758 code is shift solenoid B electrical /2-3 shift solenoid circuit electrical, It better to inspect the wire going into the transmission they have a tendency to leak transmission fluid into the circuit make inspection for proper connection if you decide to replace the solenoid you still need to inspect the circuit for proper mating. If this solenoid fails and you wait to long to replace it you can loose the ECM due to the high power draw it takes from the ECM.

SOURCE: Will not shift into 4wd low but will shift into 4wd high

Thanks for your response johnnyc85.... I did some searching on the internet and found it. When you need to go into 4wd low, just turn your knob to the 4wd low position and when it starts to blink just put the truck into drive or reverse and move about 1mph it will lock right it. It takes about 5 seconds to engage.

SOURCE: 4wd doesnt work

First make sure someone did not replace the transfer case with a manual shift transfer case. If not you have what mechanics call "GHOSTS" there is a miscomunication somewhere between the button and the relay this will take time to trace down get a good multimeter and a wiring diagram.

That was a good suggestion by Molson. Also, if you have been doing a lot of heavy hauling, have them check the strainer, which could be a problem as well.

I have a 2000 silverado Z71 push button 4wd. My 4wd service light is on but my 4wd works just fine. The light comes and goes. Im going to get a code reader but havent yet. Any idea what it might be?

The 4wd switch has been known to be a problem. p2575 is the code for it. Also there is a ground problem. The wires are on the frame near the drivers side front door. Remove the wires, clean the undercoating off, use dielectric grease on the terminals and reinstall them. After that spray on some undercoating to cover the area.

97 GMC Z71 4X4 Not Locking in

If it's a shift - on - the - fly 4wd, then call your local Chevy truck dealer. There was a recall on the Electronic 4wd on these trucks. (common problem). Try this just for the heck of it. With the truck stopped, put in 4hi/lo, then put it in reverse. Back up slightly, (about 5ft or so) and then put it in drive (or first in a manual trans) and go forward. Did it lock in? If it locks in but won't unlock, try backing up to unlock. Hope this helps.
