SOURCE: brakes have been replaced and master cylinder,
keep bleeding the lines. take a real long time to get the air out.
SOURCE: i replaced a master cylinder on a 2001 taurus and
I take it you have a rebuilt master cylinder. (It can happen to new ones also!) It is quite possible that the 2nd piston seal in the master cylinder is either installed incorrectly or was damaged during installation by who ever assembled it. You can install a PLUG in the front piston outlet hole and try it again. If it is still spongy.... the replacement Master cylinder is bad. (my therory... when in doubt change it out... when it comes to master cylinders)
Take the cylinder back and get another one. (warranty!!!) I have had this happen a few times over the years. Just one of those misfortunes of the task.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Good question, on the antilock system is a bleader too and bleade it the same way you bleade the caliper. After all is done adjust the rear brakes, they should have a drag to them.
SOURCE: NO BRAKES, REPLACED LINES, MASTER
How did you bleed the brakes? I find that gravity bleeding brake systems works better than the pumping and release method. To gravity bleed the brakes you will be required to remove the calipers (one at a time preferably), remove the brake fluid reservior cap (make sure to top off the fluid as often as required during the bleeding process). In order to gravity bleed you wil have to turn the caliper with the bleeder turned straight up, lossen the bleeder and watch for air bubbles. The main purpose for doing this is to get trapped air out of the calipers themselves that usually gets trapped above the bleeder if done with the caliper installed. Try this if you havent already and let me know how it turns out for you. Always worked like a charm for me.
