I found that it is embarrassingly obvious once you get the parts and place them in position. Each belt only fits the appropriate pulley in width and length. When the belt breaks there's no visual reference (as one would have if he replaced the belts before they broke!) if the belt diagram is worn off the hood. Lesson learned; replace belts- a simple task- before they break!

Start with the power steering belt it takes a 12 mm socket for the bolt in the power steering . also loosen the bolt on the power steering pump pulley. remove the radiator lower fan shroud. It just clips in. pull the power steering belt around the fan and out of the engine compartment then do the a/c belt. That is the best way I know how.

Did the first alternator test bad or was it replaced because it might be bad? If it had a shorted diode, the battery will sense the short and usually burn out a 'fuse link' within the wiring harness. Disconnect the negative connection from the battery and take a resistance reading from the output terminal (the heavy wire) of the alternator to the positive terminal of the battery--it should measure very near zero ohms if good, infinity if bad. Another possibility is a bad voltage regulator unit.

I've found the bolt that the alternator pivots on to be not much fun. A small palm type ratchet has been helpful. Here's an online manual's alternator section: http://myweb.dal.ca/is353832/93fsm/charging/3generato.pdf
