I replaced my ignition cylinder and key because my car would turn off but after i replaced that it does the same thing so i looked at the ignition switch and it is also good. so the only way i can start n stop my car is by using the switch alone (no keys needed), can someone please help me with this problem before someone steals my car or the police thinks its stolen AGAIN?

SOURCE: Ignition switch wont turn off the motor

I have the same problem. It's the ignition switch actuator rod. I've already went thru the lock and ign. switch, both are fine.

SOURCE: Car won't shut off, even after key is removed.

I've seen these have a pin fall out in the shaft that connects the lock cylinder to the ignition switch. It is pinned together where the steering column tilts and the pins fall out. Usually if you take the column apart the pin is still laying in the column.

Just replaced ignition switch cylinderon 04' escalade. Same problem keys wont turn to on position

You replaced the ignition switch or the lock cylinder? They are two distinctly different things. If the key goes in, but won’t turn, it’s probably the lock cylinder. The tumblers can wear out over time and the grit jambs up the cylinder.

2005 chevy malibu i replaced ignition now it starts for one second then turns off is can i directly permantly insert the chip from the key directly into sensor box which is cinnected to the ignition &...

A common problem is the ignition cylinder and/or the ignition switch. With the buzzing of the relay, i would say all this may be related to the ignition switch. A low voltage supply to any of the circuits that the switch feeds will give strange electrical conditions. If going to replace the ignition switch, then also do the cylinder at the same time. With all things described, sure sounds like the ignition switch. P.S. The locks may be related to the ignition switch problem or not at all. With that said, would suggest looking at the BCM(body control module)It control locks, and also has alot to do with the security system. See picture at bottom of this page of corroded BCM connectors. 4- Passlock Ignition lock
cylinder removed.
Install new cylinder.Try to start- it wont or dies.Leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds.Turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start

i had one do the same thing, the wire ends at the starter were frayed and the starter had a drag in it, put new ends on starter and replaced the solinod and it worked fine, there is also a fuse that will stop the ignition from working , worth a look to see if its loose or bad contact.

Steering wheel locked and key will not turn 2000 jeep grand cherokee

First thing you need to try is wiggling the steering wheel back and worth while turning the key to try and unlock the steering column. If the key is worn out it may not turn well in the ignition. Another thing is to lubricate the ignition cylinder. If nothing works, it maybe the ignition cylinder tumbler is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Key wont turn on 2004 Alero. If key is inserted and door is opened the alert bell sounds off indicating keys have been left in ignition, but that is all that is functioning. Have tried 2 different keys and...

Ignition lock cylinders are pretty notorious for this. You may get the thing to turn by wiggling the key up and down while turning at the same time. I have also had luck in tapping on the cylinder with a screwdriver handle while turning the key. To completely fix the problem, you will have to replace the lock cylinder. GM (AC Delco) lock cylinder kits come with an assortment of tumblers so the new cylinder can be set-up to work with your existing keys.
