YOOLS U NEED= Basic hand tools will probably do the trick. You may need a rachet and set of sockets.

1

Cut the furnace's power source before beginning. Check for a power switch near your furnace or turn off the electrical power supply at the circuit breaker.

2Turn off the gas supply if you have a gas furnace. Look around the furnace for a black pipe. This pipe is the gas line. Check for a valve located near the pipe. Turn off the gas supply by moving the valve so it's perpendicular to the gas line.

3

Take off the thermostat's old cover by unscrewing the screws that attach the cover to the wall. Some covers don't have screws and simply pull off.

4

Unscrew the mounting plate and notice the wires.
5

Place a small piece of masking tape on each wire. Use a felt-tip marker to mark the masking tape according to the wire's screw terminal location. Usually, the wires are marked with letters.

6

Disconnect the low-voltage wires from the base plate by loosening the screws and then pulling the wires away.
7

Locate the mounting screws for the base plate. Unscrew them and take off the base plate. Guide the base plate over the wires carefully.

What tools needed for changing thermostat

Most thermostat bodies are usually quite easy to remove. For tools a decent socket set with extension bars and flex joints will be needed. Depending on how the hose clamps are fastened you will need a small socket, a flat blade screwdriver or a large pair of grips.
The only issue you might have is getting to the thermostat housing as I think it is tucked under another radiator hose. As your draining the system anyway you will be safe to remove it for access.

How do I change the thermostat on a 1995 Ford Econoline van? Do I need to remove any brackets, belts, etc. to get to the thermostat? What tools do I need to remove the thermostat housing? I have limited...

I hope were talking about a Ford V8,
Just follow the top radistor hose back to the engine block.
There should be 2 "7/16" bolts and a housing.
You shouldn't have to remove the hose in most cases.
loosen the two bolts,MAKE SURE ENGINE IS COOL.
At the bottom of the housing is the thermostat it should be resting on the engine block.
remove and replace it with the new one in the same direction with the spring down in the engine block.
Male sure you remove all the old gasket and put in a new gasket.
If you need a gasket sealer "used with most fiber type gaskets" use the gasket sealer.
If it happens to be a rubber "O" ring type gasket, no sealer is required.
Good luck,Gary.

HOW TO CHANG THERMOSTAT IN COOLING SYSTEM

The thermostat is located in the housing bolted to the block that the lower hose is attached to.

-Remove the lower hose from the housing.
-Remove the two bolts holding the housing to the block (10mm socket will work).
-Remove the housing from the block.

The new thermostat will come with a cardboard tube. Use it to push down and twist the thermostat to release it from the housing. Install the new thermostat into the housing and then reassemble.

Fill the cooling system and start the vehicle. Let it idle until the cooling fan comes on making sure to top off the coolant reservoir as necessary. Then replace the cap and your good to go.

Need to change radiator on 2006 ford explorer

THE EASIEST WAY TO REPLACE THIS RADIATOR IS TO REMOVE THE FREON FROM THE AC SYSTEM, DISCONNECT THE LINES GOING TO THE AC CONDENSER, REMOVE THE FAN SHROUD TOP AND BOTTOM, THEN REMOVE THE 13MM BOLTS ON THE UPPER PART OF THE RADIATOR SUPPORTS. REMOVE THE AIR DIFLECTOR ON THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE, REMOVE THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY. LAST YOU NEED THE TOOL TO DISCONNECT THE TRANS LINES. ONCE THIS IS DONE THE RADIATOR AND THE CONDENSER WILL COME OUT IN ONE PIECE. AFTER THIS IS DONE YOU CAN EASILY REMOVE THE RADIATOR FROM THE SUPPORT.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE TOOL TO REMOVE THE TRANS LINES YOU CAN UNSCREW THE TRANS LINES FROM THE RADIATOR. YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE FITTINGS OFF THE NEW RADIATOR AND USE THE OLD ONES. ONCE YOU HAVE THE RADIATOR IN PUT THE FAN SHROUD BACK IN AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS. THEN IF YOU HAD TO UNSCREW THE TRANS LINES DUE TO NO TOOL, REMOVE ONE OF THE FITTINGS OFF THE NEW RADIATOR AND SCREW THE OLD FIITING BACK IN AND TIGHTEN IT. THEN REMOVE THE OTHER TRANS FITTING AND SCREW IT IN USING THE OLD FITTING. DO NOT REMOVE BOTH OF THE TRANS FIITINGS ON THE NEW RADIATOR AT THE SAME TIME OR YOU WILL LOSE THE RESEVOIR IN THE RADIATOR. ONCE THIS IS ALL DONE EVACUATE THE AC SYSTEM, RECHARGE THE AC, FILL THE RADIATOR WITH COOLANT AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT, AND THE RADIATOR CAP AT THE SAME TIME. I BELIEVE THE THERMOSTATS IN THIS VEHICLE DO NOT OPEN AS DESIGNED WHICH CREATES VERY HIGH PRESSURE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM WHICH CAUSES THE RADIATOR TO FAIL PREMATURELY.
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE CHECK THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE AND MAKE SURE IT IS NOT ROCK HARD, IF YOU DID NOT REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT. IF IT IS ROCK HARD REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT.
THINGS TO CHECK:
CHECK THE RAD/CONDESER SUPPORTS FOR CRACKS YOU MAY FIND THEY ARE BROKEN IF THEY ARE REPLACE THE SUPPORT. IT IS AVAILABLE FROM FORD.

Message reads check coolant level, engine is hot, stop engine, car overheats and dumps radiator fluids. i think its the thermostat how do i replace it?

The thermostat should be located in a housing at the end of the upper radiator hose with two maybe three bolts. loosen the clamp if you have a tool to do this with, sometimes they're not screwdriver type clamps, may need to buy a tool for this job. once the upper hose is removed then you can loosen the housing and remove the thermostat. remove the old seal and replace it as well. the seal may be a gasket, if it is then scrape the surface clean. if you use sealant make sure you use it to glus the themostat and gasket to the thermostat housing ,not getting any sealant in the waterjacket, for it will circulate thru the system and stop up the block or even you're new thermostat. bolt the housing down equally on the bolts, don't warp the housing, replace the upper haoes, ( use a little grease around the inside of the hose to help seal and go on easier, tighten the clamp, replace coolant with the correct amount of 50/50 solution for your type car, you're finished, Good Job!!!

2005 Hyundai Accent overheating, radiator replaced, obviously the thermostat was not replaced. Where is it located? What tools will be required?

A car can overheat for a lot of reasons.First make sure this is the problem by checking the radiator hose or water level. Open the radiator cap when the car is cold, crank it, and then watch the water level. If it drops when the car warms up this is not the problem.
The tools you will need will depend on what you have to take off to get to it. If you can access the thermostat you should only need a ratchet or wrench to remove it and something to scrape off old gasket with.
Location:The thermostat should be inside the thermostat housing on the motor. Follow your top radiator hose to the place where it goes into the motor. There should be a sort of dome shaped housing there with probably a bolt on either side of it.The thermostat is inside that.
This is a reasonably easy job, but shouldn't be done carelessly. It's also kind of messy.
When the car is cold remove the bolts from the housing with a ratchet. Lots of coolant and water will drain out. But the thermostat will be visible.Pay attention to which side of the thermostat is up.It should just lift up. Remove all the old gasket from around the area and clean it up well. Replace the thermostat and gasket then the bolts. Be very careful not to over tighten the bolts or the housing will be ruined.
