Hey there B,

I've had a Suburban and I currently have a Blazer (Look at my Pic). Both do this.

Try this even though you tried before.
Look at the front wheels.
Are they , even to the slightest degree facing to the left or right?
Put the keys in. Now as you try to turn the key, turn the steering wheel more in the direction the front wheels are already facing.

There should be some play in that direction.

As you are holding the wheel hard over and working the key, at the same time try moving the cylinder in and out slightly.

This always works for me.

Good luck
Mike

2004 Toyota highlander steering wheel is locked but turned halfway, key wont turn and wheels are straight

there is a load on the lock pin in the steering column try turning the steering wheel a bit left or right to release the pin as you try turning the key.
Steering wheel locks never lock straight ahead as the idea is that if the car is being stolen it will turn a circle rather that move straight

Key is locked in the ignition

To fix your problem, you have to turn the steering wheel either to the left or right as much as you can, then try to turn the key in the ignition. When the steering wheel locks, the key won't turn. By manually holding the steering wheel out of the lock position, the key will turn again and you're steering column will be back to normal. Also try holding the brake pedal down and turning the key and steering wheel at the same time

1990 chevy suburban. The key was turned to auxillary and stuck

hopefully that does not have tilt steering which makes the job somewhat more difficult. the same thing happened with a van i owned. there are small arms inside the steering column that move with the key to move the ignition switch.
to confirm it is broken locate the ignition switch on the column. remove it then turn the key. if the piece that normally moves that switch doesn't... than it is broken.

first unhook the battery.

about the only way to get at it is to remove the steering wheel. there are more parts behind that that have to be removed. then you will get to what is basically and end cap. remove that and slide out the parts and install the new arm(s) mine was a 2 piece.

basically you just need to bolt it back up and reinstall the key cylinder and you are good to go. hook up the battery again and you should have a working vehicle.
the tilt springs can be held together with a c clamp. it is tricky but you will see as you attempt it.

Locked steering wheel.

If your key won't turn, you can move the steering wheel back and forth until it does or try to hold the steering wheel to the left or right while turning the key. This happened with my car when I parked with my wheels turned in. Now I make sure the steering wheel and my wheels are straight when I park.

Locked steering wheel

Sounds like the rack is broken inside steering column. This happened to me while getting tires replaced at pep-boys. Try moving the tilt wheel up and down while turning key.

Locked steering wheel

Try having someone rock the car frontwards and backwards, while you rock the steering wheel back and forth and try to turn the key - it sounds like you're jammed up hard against the steering column lock.

Key In Ignition Won't Move 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

The steering column sounds locked. Try turning the steering wheel all the way left or right till you hear it unlock or until the key can turn. Note; You must use force to unlock the steering column and don't be scared because it won't break anything.
