Ford longreach with rough idle

Hi guys my ford xh longreach ute is idleling very rough on both gas and petrol and up until i changed my coil it was konking as I took off at the lights. It still idles very rough and I'm afraid it will start konking again, at first I put in the best spark plugs I could find,(IRIDIUMS) then I put 9mm spiral core high temp leads on and the problem still remained. After replacing the coil as mentioned above it seemed to stop konking but its still idleling rough. My next step is to install a K&N air filter and get it dyno tested. So I guess my question is is there any idle sensor or any other thing it could be and can I adjust the idle myself. It is a 98 xh longreach S ute with a 4.9ltr V8, PLEASE HELP ME

A diagnostic computer check from your local ford dealer will sort that problem for you,the cost for that check should be around $50 and from then on whatever the problem wil cost you whatever your local dealer charges for labour or unless of course you are able to do it yourself which is cheaper in the long run, hope that helps,,goodluck.

Does an xh ute have the same fuel gauge for gas and petrol. When I change to gas my fuel gauge drops to empty????

Don't know the vehicle at all, but perhaps the gas (I assume you mean something like lpg) gague is sharing the same power set up, ie when switch to gas, the power or sensor wires are then redirected elsewhere, so the fuel gague drops off, till returning to petrol.

See this scenario on a couple of lpg cars here in uk. All lpg cars I've seen do not share a gague though.

Cannot get the timing right on my ford longreach xg 1995 ute

Hi Orangesun, Are we talking about ignition timing or valve timing? Have you replaced a belt or a chain. What work have you carried out to date? What went wrong in the first place? Let us know the model and year of the vehicle and the engine type, petrol or diesel powered. Regards John

How do i stop the fuel running when changing a fuel filter? 1996 ford xh longreach. 4.0l v6

You can clamp it if it is a rubber tub. But if it's metal. fuel should only spill for about 30 seconds until the line is empty. Be careful! Have a mechanic do it if you don't feel comfortable doing it. Thanks for asking!

2000 Focus Zetec-rough idle, very rough under load.

you haven't said if its petrol or diesel so i'm assuming its petrol since your smelling sulfur sounds if you have a misfire causes could be plugs, leads or ign coil i suspect its ign coil these are common to go.
