Does it have fuel or spark? When you turn the key to run can you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds?could be the fuel pump system, ignition coil/coils.ignition module.Even a low battery can cause it.Does it have fuel or spark? When you turn the key to run can you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds?could be the fuel pump system, ignition coil/coils.ignition module.Even a low battery can cause it.

I own the same 3500 GMC 6.5 diesel truck with the same problem. We replaced the brain under the upper turbo hood and it fixed it pronto. No more shutoffs
The battery could be your only issue here.Your engine management system will not work well under about ten volts. You battery may have low reserve. Try a new battery as it sounds like you will need one anyway.
Have same prolem replaced distribtor cap button plugs and wires.
