The bottom cushion pulls up with a finger tab located on the rear of the cushion by the door. Then there is a release lever located on the top of the back rest next to the head rest. You will need to remove the head rest for the seatback to lay completely flat.

SOURCE: 2001 jeep grand cherokee seat removal

i actually removed my 2 front seats very easily as a novice. There really is only i think 4 bolts that need to come out 2 in front and 2 in back. If i can remember correctly i believe it was a larger metric size. Although i dont have power seats, if you do just look for the clip connector and disengage

What is a g switch malfunction on a jeep grand Cherokee laredo

you havn't mentioned year but a "G" switch is a mercury filled sensor used in the braking system see attachments ( hopefully).Disconnect the battery , once located and removed DO NOT attempt to open up the component , place in a metal container and take to be recycled , mercury is very toxic , there is only ONE component the schematic shows the usual locations
Removal Procedure for 1993-2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee:
Fold the rear seat assembly forward and roll back the carpeting to gain access to the sensor.
  1. Locate the ABS G-Force Sensor.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector.
  3. Remove the two bolts to release the sensor.
  4. Schematic,(general)

On a '97 jeep grand cherokee limited, do the back seats lay forward? If so, how do you put them down? Thank you.

On each side of the back seat (the part you sit on), there is a loop. Pull this up, and the seat cushion will swivel up towards the front seat back. Visible at the lower corner of the seat back, is a lever that tou can pull up ( the earlier versions needed to be pushed down or back). The seat back will then fold /down/forward. The headrest must be removed so that the seat back can fold flat. The headreat can be removed by turnibg the small knob at the base of one of the head rest shafts. There is a small arrow indicating the direction of rotation to accomplish this.
