Driving along and the battery light started lighting up (new battery is less than 200 miles old!) then it flashed alternately with the seatbelt light (seatbelt was on). Car has 138K miles on it. Drove back into garage and car would not come out of gear. Is stuck in drive but won't restart. ANy ideas?
SOURCE: is it the alternator?
check the alternator it is probobly bad , because the aleternator charges the battery,, when it quites working you only have the battery to run on for awhile then it will go dead because the alternator is no longer charging the battery as a rule of thumb check the voltage on the battery with a voltmeter positive on positive negative on negative if its unnder 12 volts alternators bad hope this helps

SOURCE: Have 2007 Santa Fe which I love - problem: Drove
the crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!
Testimonial: "Thx ottawa tech - that makes sense... My major concern was that part was not readily available-Is that common? Also car is "young" - problem?"
