2006 equinox air tube behind throttle body?

Service engine light has been coming on at different times {not always on} so chevy dealer hooked up and said it needs several things: Replace air tube behind the throttle body for $250. What is this? Can it be done by us instead? We feel very ripped off by this dealer but there aren't many other Chevy dealers in the area. Also states: Fuel trim lean due to loose fresh air inlet tube to rear valve cover. Need to secure inlet tube to bracket and program ECM with updated calibration $50 They also want to complete the following: Transmission fluid flush service $160 Coolant flush service $??? Power steering fluid flush $100 Fuel system flush $120 Over $600 in reparis plus they charged us $50 to hook it up to diagnose these things. Please help us know what needs to be done and what we can do ourselves, etc. Thank you!

Short answer is that I've never seen a dealer charge a customer to hook up and read codes from the ODB2 port.
I think that pretty much defines that particular dealers service department.

The transmission is not designed to require fluid maintenance per the owners manual-ever. That's why there's no user available dip stick.

The cooling system is designed for flush and replace only after 150,000 miles.

Somewhere in your town is a small, affordable and professional garage with an excellent mechanic. Give him or her the list of grievances listed by the dealer and let them work their magic for much less.

You are right, some of what is listed is bunk, some could be real issues.
One that is not real? The steering is electronic assist, no fluid, just synchro-motors. What were they going to flush, your wallet?

I am a firm believer in the factory franchised dealer concept however, there are some that should have their franchises revoked, I think you found a pretty good candidate.

Best of luck.

SOURCE: emissions isue

Sounds like they want to cover all bases. When the truck is first started you should hear the pump run. If it does you don't need the pump. While the engine is running remove the hose from the check vavle, exhaust should not be coming out of the tube, if it does the check valve is bad. There is also a vacuum hose going to the check valve , make sure it is hooked up. It's not to hard to diagnose this code. Pumps are approx. $150.00 Check valves around $80.00

SOURCE: 2003 Chevrolet Coolant Flush

I see no problem you doing this yourself. First i would pour some coolant flush in it and run it a couple of days, secound instead of useing the pip **** to drain it, when its cool remove the bottom radiator hose from the radiator and drain it that way, its faster and you will get more out of the engine block that way, (unless your going to pull the block drains.) Just make sure you get it full when you refill it so you don't get any air pockets in the system. What i do is pull the thermostat and fill the engine block from there and reinstall thermostat and then the radiator that way i know that i did not get any air in the system.

SOURCE: 06 Chevy Cobalt power steering msg and check engine light on

So I fell victim just as everyone else has. I hit 45,000 miles and my power steering went out and it cost $900 to fix it.

In order to get Chevy to recall this problem we all need to call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 or visit http://www.SaferCar.gov It will only take a few minutes.

I made a video and put it on youtube to help build awareness on the subject:

Throttle body diagram

Oh you are looking for an emission system diagram. http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/26/90/23/large/0900c15280269023.gif hose from call out 3 to 4 is pcv make up hose large 1/2 inch in diameter or so and hard plastic, from six ( pcv valve in other valve cover, goes to intake or throttle body area or engine inlet air passage an then continues to the purge valve, purge valve has a green test port cover that acts like a bike valve stem cap on the wheel. The last is 8 which is fuel pressure regulator mounted in fuel rail. Now if it is the fuel pressure regulator that is not hooked up then do not hook it up. It may be your life if you do. This style of for is known to start leaking internally which goes right down I take and gives engine raw fuel making fire and explosion a possibly outcome. Buy new from gm dealer. Big difference in amount of time it will last and engine performance will suffer if use cheap parts. http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/26/90/23/large/0900c15280269023.gif

Dealer says code P0506 for my check engine light and that it is caused by air pump emmisions

Just my opinion, but dealer is blowing smoke up there! Clean your throttle body. This is idler control code. It is VERY common for our TB's throttle body to gum up and get clogged with carbon, because we don't have a pcv system. Disconnect the battery, clean the throttle body, best done if you remove the throttle body. You can even re-use the plastic o-ring/gasket many times over. I find that using Seafoam to clean with plastic bristled brush is the best. Seafoam is sensor safe and cost about $9 a can. Look up on the TUBE, there are many videos there showing how to clean a Trailblazer/Envoy throttle body. Very easy and inexpensive. After that's done, clean that throttle body at least once a year. You'll get better gas mileage with it clean.

What causes my system to completely shut down when I turn key on my 2006 chevy equinox. battery is fully charged.could it be the starter shorting out?

I think I had the same problem. My car would not fully start. The starter would try to for several seconds but would not get the engine to start. Just got it back from the dealership/shop and after they put it on their computer it showed something with the throttle body. They took off the air intake to get to the throttle body and saw it was dirty and gummed up. They cleaned it and said it should be good to go. Time will tell and now I'm using Lucas Oil gas treatment everytime I fill up so I don't run into this problem again. It is an easy fix, wish I would have thought of that before shelling out$128 for a computer to find it, so look at your throttle body and if need be, clean it with carburator cleaner or other approved cleaner.

P2176=Throttle Actuator Control System - Idle Position Not Learned
Did you use all you old sensors,or is some of them from the new engine,I would swap out the IAC sensor or check for wires not hooked up.
If it can't relearn to idle the Idle air control might be different then your old one,but its not registering with the computer

Where is the filter on the a/c of a 2006 chevy equinox

Behind the glove box. Open the glove box, there is a small hook that holds the glove box in place, swing this hook out of the way and it will drop out of place and the cabin air filter should be right behind it.
