SOURCE: how to change sparkplugs on 2001 eclipse

Ok so I don't know if you have a 4 or 6 cyl it WILL make a difference typically on a six cyl you will find three left three right just about the exaust manifolds.. U will know because they have wires attached to each and every one... Do not remove this being your first time and all with out labeling them with tape etc in which order you removed them.. You will need a spark plug socket and Ratchet. You will have to buy the appropriate size at the parts store when you go in to get your spark plugs.... To find the correct size write down the info from the top of the head... Doch etc etc should say the liter and if it is a single head going left to right in there then you have a four cyl. in which case there will be four wires just to the rear of the fuel rail you will notice there are a couple of bolts holding the boots and ingnition coil in place remove them and then the wires. pull strait up slowly you will usually hear it pop when the seal is broken. Depending on how many miles you have may be a good idea to change the wires as well as they do wear with age.. typically I would say every fifty to seventy thousand miles... Spark plugs should be changed yearly to maitain good fuel economy. The wires on the other hand are dependant upon the extent of use of vehicle if it is always under diress in stop and go and such think about having them checked earlier. The plugs themselves are not to tough but can sometimes be difficult to break loose, be sure to hold extension and ratchet still as you try to turn to the left. This will ensure a succesful removal as for the replacement get the plugs gapped to your car, if not available get NGK I love them burn hot give a little boost in performance... They should be dead on for gap. just give them the correct info on your engine size and year. Putting them back in is important do not tighten too far tighten till snug then push three quarter turn past that.. Main thing is don't make them too tight and do not leave them loose,,,, One suggestion, after a week has past I find Aluminum heads have a tendancie to shrink and swell a lot you should check that they are still secure after one week: ) Good luck!!!
Don't let anyone tell you you can't handle it I am self taught and have been donig my own maintenance since I was fifteen.. Now 29 it can be done: ) ?'s you can write.. [email protected]

I have a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse spider, how to change the spart plugs

i'm guessing you're asking because it's a v6 FWD and you don't know how to get to the spark plugs along the firewall. you will need to find the front motor mounts or the anti torque bolts whatever you wanna call it and make your motor swing. you can do that by locating your front motor mounts or side or even rear. i'm not sure with a eclipse but once you've found the anti torque bolts attached to it and removed them you can roll the car forward and it should leave about 6 inches of space behind the engine to get the those spark plugs. front should be easy
