Pulling the tank is a hassle best avoided. If you just need to change the pump/sending unit it is way easier to lift the bed of the truck and hold it in place with lumber scraps. If you have your heart set on removing it then why not just do it once. Most of the guys around here just cut an access hole above the pump location ( with the tank removed ) then fab up and weld in a frame with a recessed lip and a plate to drop in.

SOURCE: i am trying to remove my fuel tank from a 96 chevy suburban and replace the fuel pump

ok i'm going to guess that you have a gasoline engine with a side tank like in a pickup truck. if you have a diesel let me know, things might be a little different. here's the step by step for a gas side tank. before you start, disconnect the battery negative cable.
1. drain the fuel from the tank (they don't tell you how, just get as much out as you can)
2.raise and safely support vehicle (get it high enough that you can get under it to work on it)
3.loosen the fuel neck hose at fuel neck and disconnect filler neck from tank
4.support tank and remove tank support straps and insulator strips
5.remove frame mounted bracket
6.lower fuel tank shield
7.lower fuel tank enough to gain access to fuel and electrical connections
8.disconnect fuel feed and vapor hoses
9.disconnect electrical connectors
10.remove fuel sender assembly and seal ring
now to install new tank
1.install NEW seal ring and install sender
2.raise tank enough to connect fuel feed /vapor hoses and electrical connector
3.raise tank fully
4.install fuel tank shield
5.connect fuel tank filler neck and tighten clamp
CAUTION tighten fuel strap fasteners in steps, alternating between straps, until proper torque is reached. failure to properly follow this step can cause bottom of tank to deform. fuel gauge may read improper level if this occurs
6.install fuel tank brackets and insulator strips
torque nuts to 115 in-lbs
7.install fuel tank filler cap
8.connect battery negative cable
9.turn ignition switch off and on and check for leaks
it's pretty much the same for rear tank, just different location, may have off-road shield in back and torque spec is 47 ft-lbs, not 115 in-lbs. you still have to alternate when you torque straps or you risk deforming tank. hope that helps

SOURCE: vent door stuck and can't remove glove box

why can't you remove the glove box? You can get at the door from under the dash but it's a ***** to do. try lubing the vent cables unless it uses the vacuum motor, if it uses the vac. motor it will be hard to get to without the glove box being out.

How to fix fuel pump on chevy 2000 silverado pickup

You'll need to disconnect everything to the fuel tank and remove the fuel tank. The pump is mounted going into the top of the fuel tank. Remove the lines and connectors, and remove the lock ring holding the fuel pump in the tank. I have seen some mechanics remove the bed of the truck to remove the pump, either way, each way is a bit involved.

1994 chevy pickup won't start

no,you will need to siphon the gas out of the tank.before you do,remove the gas cap, have someone turn the ignition on,while you stand by the tank.the fuel pump should run for a second or two. if it does ,I doubt it is the fuel pump,if it does't,it probably is

1994 chevy pickup won't start

If you listen closely when you first turn the key to the "run" position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump cut in for a few seconds, and then stop. If you can hear it, then it's okay, and your problem is elsewhere. Make sure you have spark. Use a timing light to check. If you can't hear it, check your fuses, both inside the cab, and under the hood. Check to see if there is power to the fuel pump. Chances are it is a faulty fuel pump, but you want to make sure that's what it is before you start, because it can be a filthy job. There isn't a drain, you'll have to syphon as much as you can, and lower the tank with a floor jack. If there is an engine light on, borrow a scan tool and it will save you a lot of time and money. Good luck.

How do i change the fuel pump in my 1994 toyota 4x4 pickup truck?

it's inside the fuel tank. i believe you've got to drop the tank on this vehicle as there probably isnt a service door on your truck bed.. you would also be able to get at it by removing the entire bed.

1994 Toyota Truck 22R Engine (ext.cab,4x4,5 speed man.) Is it best to remove the truck bed or lower the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel pump? 1994 Toyota Truck 22R Engine

If you're doing it by yourself, drop the fuel tank.
Make sure it's almost out of gas first.

If you pull the bed, it's the bolts that hold the bed in, the wiring to the tail lights, and the tank filler neck to take loose. Then you have to pick up the bed of the pickup (a couple hundred pounds).
To get the tank out, it's the filler neck, and unbolt the straps that hold it in. Depending on how much fuel is in it, is how much it's going to weigh.
But as you loosen the straps, you can use a floor jack to hold the tank up. Same when putting it back in.

So I would go with taking the tank out, and not pulling the bed off.
