Air Suspension problem with 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Yesterday My truck was fine. The next morning, it was very low and my ride was extremely bouncy! My suspension switch is turned on and my air suspension compressor does not come on. Two of my mini fuses are fine, but the maxi fuses I could not remove to check out. Are there any other ways I can repair it before the dealership takes advantage and rapes my bank account?

But my compressor is not coming on. What is the cause for that?

Same problem with 2004 Navigator. Dealer diagnosed problem as leaking caps/seals with $900 repair cost for front only. The problem is widespread as the parts are on a national back-order.

what is the cost to fix this air suspension problem? im also bouncing around and riding low to the ground

  • awalker553 Mar 04, 2009

It's funny it started reading this. Today, My 2003 navigator did something very strange. My passenger side front has pumped higher than I've ever seen it. My truck is all uneven! From what i can hear, the pumps are working fine. it's almost seems as if it's pumping to much to that side of the truck. In addition, I turned the truck off and it never lowered? (no release on the pumps). I plan to disconnect the battery in hopes that it will reset the pumps and begin to release and react accordingly. I will advise soonest. if you have any suggestions pls advise.

PS: My notification lights never came on and are still off.

Your solution only works if the suspension never works. All our suspension work in warm weather or after the car has warmed up for an hour. Once the suspension pumps up it stays up all day. I wish it was just a leak.

Yes and no. You have to have it tested because you have a leak. Finding the leak is not easy unless you can easily get under your vehicle safely. System has to be fed with air to find it and unless you are under the vehicle it is very hard to hear it.
Replacement is not that hard but, it can be costly if you have to replace the compressor. Expect it to be around $400-500.

With all the problems that an air ride system has in store for you, I would suggest going to Strutmasters. Their website is easily navigated and their products are great! I bought a kit for my Navigator and eliminated the air ride all together. Its worth a shot and help your wallet!

Frankbaci, Have you diagnosed your steering issue?

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2011

.I have not but i was told that the wire my mechanic cut that controlled the suspension light inside has something to do with it and I might have that wire connected again and see what happens. I will post it once i have it done.

Replace airbags with coils ... cost me $1500 to do so (of which $1400 was parts cost) ... now I have a nice firm ride, and no worries about future failure of this poorly designed/low reliability system.

2004 Lincoln nave, rear wheels jacked up high, front wheels normal, rides real rough??? any thoughts???? Thanks,

Replace the air suspension with conventional shock/strut
conversions. The Air Ride System is not worth investing
time and money ,after the vehicle is 5 years old.
Too expensive to maintain ,and too difficult to diagnose

Next time buy the Ford version of the vehicle

Check suspsension came on in my 2003

Sounds like your air ride suspension is either leaking air in the air bags, air lines, etc, or the compressor is not working. If your truck is still under warranty take it to the dealership to get it fixed or with a good mechanic. If it is an air bag or the compressor start checking online for any good, cheap parts because parts for this SUV run expensive.

2003 NAVIGATOR AIR RIDE STOPPED WORKING,PUMP CHECKED OK.

The navi has leveling sensors on both axles that are switches and are adjustable. Most likely these are out of calibration. DO NOT attempt to move or adjust these with the vehicle on jack stands. Vehicle could shift and fall resulting in serious injury.
