Go to "technical review" (or anything else like this), they're checking whole car. Maybe they'll find out what's the problem.

The transmission is probably shot. the only other thing could be dirty linkage if you mean "hard" as in hard to move the shift lever. The first thing I would do is get a tranny fluid and filter change.

SOURCE: Shifting hard in reverse & delay shifting in drive

Hi

It sounds like the torque converter is packing up. best way to tell is to take the hand brake off put the car in drive when parked and lift your foot from the brake, if the car starts to creep forward by its self "no throttle" then its most likely the torque converter.

Its an expensive part and they always seem to go around the mileage you say the car has.

In the UK they are around £400 average price but may be cheaper in the US.

I would normally say check the fluid but as you say its been done then, no point.

other possibilities are the slave cylinder for the fluid not functioning correctly. thats about £50 in the UK.

And lastly the gearbox it's self. Its quite unlikely from what you have said but still get it checked out if you think thats the cause.

Hope this is helpful.

SOURCE: feel it shifting hard when

I have had this problem in the past and (believe it or not) it was corrected by changing the catalytic converter. To save $$$ I ordered the converter from a parts house and had a local repair shop quote me a price for installation. ($50) A year later I had the similar clunking occur again and once the error codes that had accumulated in the computer were cleared the problem was gone. Either solution could work for you, but have the codes checked/cleared by a local shop or parts store first.

SOURCE: Car shifts hard (up & down), especially shifting to reverse.

that delayed reaction may be the transmission slipping. with those many miles it could be the transmission going bad

SOURCE: why does 92 ford F150 4wd stall when shifting it

try this and see if it helps.
, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
