I have a 1999 dodge intrepid 3.2L with 230,000 miles on it and it takes a longer than normal time to start. The engine turns over as if its stalling out. I was told that i should check the fuel injection relay, but have no clue where it is or what to check for...would this be the right thing to look into?? PLESASE HELP!!!

SOURCE: Car starts, drive a mile, stalls.

try haviing your alternator checked advance auto parts can check it while its on the car and the can check the battery too. if thats not it it may stall due to a loose battery connection or a loose ground strap. if it stalls and everything turns of (electrical) it may be a connection or ground strap.

Amattison:

Make sure you are using an original key. I made a copy of my key, and the copy will not work. It will start, but then shut off. Appearantly there is a chip or something in the original.

Find your firewall electrical junction block (where all the wires enter the cabin on the passenger side) and with a zip tie pull up the wire bundle so it does not ride on the upper tie rods and, fasten the zip tie to anything that is solid in the engine compartment and, let me know what happens

SOURCE: 2000 Dodge Intrepid with PO455 code and stalling.

A code 455 most likely one or more of the following has happened
a loose or bad gas cap
a non-conforming gas cap
other leaks or damage pieces in the evap system

Inspect the evap system for cracks or breaks in lines listen for vacume leaks or strong gas fume smell and fix all lines you find that are damaged ..I know you say you put a new gas cap but make sure it a conforming cap..Hope this helps

Testimonial: "Thank you!! I will def. tell my husband to check it out!! Thats the only code that comes up. So I hope this will help."

Repacing fuel filter on 1996 intrepid

1) Relieve the fuel system pressure by first removing the fuel pump relay from the Power Distribution Center. Then, start the engine and let it to run until it stalls. Try starting it again and allow it to run until it stalls. Continue restarting the engine until the car will no longer start. Turn off the ignition.
2) Disconnect one electrical connector from an injector. Use an alligator clip to connect an end of a jumper wire to either injector terminal. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the positive side of the battery. Then, connect an end of a second jumper wire to the other injector terminal. Very briefly touch the other end of the jumper wire to a ground.
3) Locate the fuel filter, which is part of the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel pump module. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then lower the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter.
4) Remove the fuel line from the pressure regulator. Remove the filter/regulator by pushing in on the locking tab on the filter as you turn the regulator to unlock it. Then, pull it straight up.
5) Push the new fuel filter into the fuel pump module. Turn to lock it in place. Connect the fuel lines, and then you can reinstall the fuel tank. Check for leaks when you start the engine on your Dodge Intrepid.

Vehicle Stalls

you should have engine light on and engine codes
if its the cam or crank sensors, shouldn't be the starter i would start with the ingition switch.

Vehicle stalls sometimes

could be either the cam sensor or crank sensor , but I would check the crank sensor first , this sensor will not cause a check engine light either

!996 Intrepid has fuel smell after filling up and stalls intermittently

I just emailed this to someone else, it might be your problem. Also, what I didn't mention to this guy, is the recall also states that a fuel line somewhere up there can crack too. Look it up to see exactly what I'm trying to say, just get on google and it will pop up.

A factory recall put out in AUG 98. The seals on the fuel lines up on the top of the motor wear out and when the engine is hot they expand and then leak fuel when the engine starts to cool off, you don't get the correct fuel pressure to the injectors, and you have to flood it to get it to start or let it sit longer. Just go down to your local Dodge dealership and they will fix it for free, I'm getting mine done Monday, my car is a 95 with 166k, and it won't cost me anything. Google recalls on 96 dodge intrepids with the 3.5 L if you don't believe me.
