It looks as if the power steering pump on my 1994 nissan altima is leaking on the top. Does it have 1 or 2 bolts? Can the "O" ring be changed to fix the problem? Could the hose just be loose?

Hoses should be changed in pairs, because if one leaks, the other will leak not too long afterwards. You may have air in the system, or the pump may have failed. When you are bleeding the system, you have to have the car jacked up at the front and turn slowly full lock left, and full lock right.
older model altima need drive belt tension adjustment at 7500 miles intervals, the new models altimas has a automatic belt tensioner.i you hear noises belt tensioner could be failing.or could have leaking coolant getting on drive belt due to water pump gasket leaking or pump leaking.or alternator power steering pump could be failing many things will cause drive belt to make high squeak noises.
The power steering pump doesnt leak unless the resevoir is cracked. The hoses can be bad or the seals for the steering mechanism could be bad also. have it looked at by a pro
it is hard to say over the internet but check the resovoir bottom for the power sterring and see if there is fluid in there . If not the items that usually leak on that model car is the high pressure power sterring hose which you will see on top next to the firewall, the return hose and the pump itself but it is hard to tell which one because the return hose attaches to the pump and if leaking would make it look like it is the pump.
the steering wheel gets stiff, because the car died and your power steering pump is stopped. beeing a 1994, you may have a fuel pump issue (nissan had campaign on those), but most likely no longer available to you, because of the age of the car. they purge campaigns out as years go on. you could have an issue with distributor. oil leaks pass the seal and gets inside of the distributor assembly on the signal plate (internal component of distribitor) and messes with the ignition system/spark plugs. you may also have a broken intake gasket. When was the last time you did a tune up?? changed plugs, fuel filter and so on???
if there is a leaking seal in the power steering rack and pinion or in the hydraulic pump, a power steering stop leak may swell the seal enough to stop the leak. if there is still a leak, it is likely a damaged / corroded line or fluid cooler. next time you need to top up your fluid, i recommend Lucas brand power steering stop leak / treatment. after a couple top ups it will stop the leak it if is a rubber seal problem. good luck!
If the pump is low or empty, the most likely cause would be the high pressure hose is leaking and needs to be replaced. If the power steering reservoir is full and the pump is still making noise then it could be the pump or a restriction in the rack valve body.
