I recently bought a remote key fob for my 2005 maxima after losing the original, the remote came with programming instructions however my car will not go into programming mode, i tried along with my mechanic several times with no luck, the car runs perfectly, my only problem is trying to get the car into programming mode, could someone advise my on what may be the problem, thanks in advance
Get into the car , close and lock all doors. insert your key into the ignition in and out 6 times or until your directionals flash. that's when the car is in program mode. you need to pay attention to it while putting key in and out of the ignition. watch your dash for flashing. its kinda hard, but you can do it. so just take your key and put it inside of the igniton and take it out 6 times in a row or until lights flash. when lights flash, put the key in the ignition and turn it to accesorries position (do not start the car). when the dash / cluster lights up after you turn the key, press any button on the remote. your hazards should flash on the dash again. after that happens, take the key out of the ignition and unlock the door with the door lock switch and open the door. remote is now programmed. congrats. you did it.

Go to a different dealer. You can buy any amount of keys, you want. For example 1. Who is to tell you how many keys you have to buy??( I would be pissed if I were you) I would get 1 key and get it programmed. That will save you some money for now. Get more keys later. You will have to reprogram them again, but what you gonna do?? Those keys are about $80 and to program it should not be more than 1/2 hr. ($45?) Those keys are easy to program, not like the I-Keys, that Nissan has now. And as far as the company in California?? never heard of it, but I do know that there are places that make keys with a transponder that will fit your Maxima. They are about 1/2 the cost of a Nissan key + the programing. Good luck.

you may have to replace the remotes and then have them reprogramed for the car because they do go bad but if there is an autozone near you they will test the remotes for free

SOURCE: Hi I want to program a new keyless fob. I have
1. Close and lock all doors with the driver’s side power lock/unlock switch.
2. Insert key into ignition and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least six times within 10 seconds. Your Hazard
Lamps will flash if you have performed this step successfully. NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder
each time. If this procedure is performed too fast, system will not enter programming mode.
3. Insert key into the ignition cylinder and turn to the ACC position.
4. Within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the remote transmitter. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. NOTE: Do not press
the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming
procedure will not be successful.
5. If there are any remaining transmitters (including the old ones), unlock then lock all doors using the driver’s side
power lock/unlock switch and within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the next remote. Your Hazard Lamps should
flash. Repeat this step for each transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
6. Turn the key to the OFF position, remove keys from the ignition, unlock doors using the driver’s side power lock/unlock switch and open the driver side door.
Remote Control Fob Procedures:
The Central Door locking is controlled by the Multi-Remote Control system which controls
the door locking, door super locking and emergency hazard reminders.
When the doors are locked and unlocked the unit flashes the hazard lights once for lock and twice for unlock.
A maximum of four remote controls are allowed to be programmed:
ALMERA
ALMERA TINO
PRIMERA
MAXIMA
MICRA
SERENA
VANETTE CARGO
TERANO II
Ensure all the doors have been unlocked, either by using a good transponder key or remote
control plip key.
Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition switch from Position 0 to ON 6 times within 10 seconds.
2. Next, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Leave key in ignition switch.
3. Wait 2 seconds then the system will enter programming mode and will flash the warning
lights twice.
4. Press and HOLD the unlock button on the Plip.
5. While pressing the unlock button, press the lock button 3 times.
6. Release the unlock button.
7. The warning lights will flash once to indicate successful programming.
8. Repeat procedure 4 to 7 for up to 4 plip key's.
9. When completed turn ignition ON, and the warning lights will flash 2 times.
10. Remove key, and check all plip key's for operation.
NOTE : The programming mode will stop when either the ignition is switch ON, 4 plip keys
have been programmed or no input signal either from the switch or plip keys has been received
for 120 seconds.
