Transmission problem my transmission is an automatic it seems to shift gears fine i have changed the fluid and filter problem still there. the problem is when i come to a stop after a min or so the transmission goes out of gear the shifter dont move it just acts like you have put it in nutral and when you take off it takes a couple of seconds to take off you give it gas then it jerks and takes off it is like you shift to drive and take off before it engages it only does this when you are stopped for a few seconds and it is not all the time it shifts fine and goes in gear like it is supose to do you know what the problem is 1997 saturn sc 2

Foot on the brake before you shift
Lift up lightly on the shifter and wiggle
If nothing pull the center console and check the shifter to see what is in the way

i would change the ****** filter see if that fixes the problem!

Alot of people have the same problem, including me. Changing the transmission fluid is not going to help this problem. THe transmission filter is not something you change as much as you clean and reinstall, its just a metal screen. Call Kia and ask for an "OVERDRIVE SHIFT SOLENOID" they will need the last 8 digits of your VIN, vehicle identification number, to locate your part. I am in the process of changing mine. The part number should be something like 46313-39051. That number is for a 2001 Kia Optima, with the 4 cylinder. There are three shift solenoids bolted to the bottom of your transmission should. I'll let you know what the difficulty level when I am finished.

you probably need to get your tranny fluid and filter changed,your filter is probably getting plugged up,get a tranny flush done at a garage or if you plan on doing it yourself,its a messy job.you need to get yourself one of those haynes repair manuals at an auto parts store or on ebay

If it has over 60000 miles it may need a transmission service, which includes a filter and fluid change, fluid may look fine but if filter is clogged and not picking up fluid fast enough when u give it gas the pump spins faster and forces fluid thru to shift, more fluid is needed to shift into higher gear.than to drive
