Adjust trunk latch

I have tried to adjust the upper part of the latch, but it barely moves when the bolts are loosened. The lower part (looks like a loop or hook), is cobered with a black plastic cover or lid, which I didn"t manage to remove. Maky thanks for any suggestion, because the trunk lid is somewhat loose when locked).

Remove the plastic cover and you should be able to adjust the catch.

SOURCE: which way do you turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to loosen it?

It turns left (counterclockwise) to remove. An impact wrench is best if you can get one on it.

If you don't use an impact wrench, you may need to somehow keep the crank from turning when you loosen the bolt.

One way is to pull the belt tighter to put more tension on the crank pulley.

There are other creative ways I've used. If you have any trouble let me know.

Trunk wont line up to latch. Its 2 inches to the right. How to I move trunk back to left?

Loosen the bolts on the hinges and line up the trunk lid so it fits the opening with the same gap all around. Once that's done remeasure the latch distance again. Loosen the latch adjustment bolts and move slightly. Recheck and adjust until trunk opens easily with the key.

Trunk won't latch closed

So you know how to work the latch, and the latch is working.

Now you need to look and the holding bar, if you have to remover the plastic cover to see how it's bolted on do it.

Sounds like the bar moved down so the trunk hits the gasket before it can lock on the bar.

See if loosening the bar bolts will allow the bar to be raised just a hair.

Trunk wont open unless someones pressing the button and someones pulling up on the trunk

maybe the locking mechanism which latches the trunk closed needs to be adjusted a little more loosly (move the latch so that it engages sooner as you close the trunk) - do this by loosening 2-3 bolts to move the latch.

Trunk will not latch onto the striker bar seem to be to short, can it be adjusted?

either the striker, or the latch will be adjustable. Look for the bolts that you loosen to move it.

Trunk wont close tight

This car should be equipped with a trunk closing motor. If they wear out they will not pull the trunk firmly closed. If you have a standard latch or other you can try to adjust it by 1) open trunk 2) loosen the two bolts that hold the latch to the trunk lid and moving the latch just slightly higher and retightening the bolts. A couple of tries should do it. Thanks for asking at Fixya.com.

Automatic pull down feature seems not 2 be working. Trunk will not close completely. What should I do to correct this problem?

I think the latch is adjustable. Look at the latch and see if you can tell if it has slipped. If there is a clean space and the rest of the latch is dirty or discolored, move the latch part back to cover up the clean part. This is probably the right location for the latch. You may have to loosen the bolts a little to move the latch but no need to take them out.

How do you adjust a trunk latch on a 03 Ford Focus Sedan?. The lock mechanism does not engage all the way in the lock. The catch has 3 bolts which can be moved for adjustment.

loosen all 3 bolts, then do them up so that they are pinch tight then push door to close as hard as you can, open door and tighten bolts, close door again to ensure no rattles/leaks and that door locks.keep adjusting till you get it right...

2001 AUdi S4 Trunk will not open. Can't open manually or wiht remote. WIll do it speratically. Can not open manually wiht button at trunk or with key. HELP.

The same "latch" secures the trunk closed.
The key, electric relay and button operate the same latch.
IF the trunk fails to open, the "latch" is not completely releasing from the catch that secures it.
The next time that you open it, inspect the adjustment of the latch assembly. It has 2 bolts that secure it. You can loosen them and adjust the assembly to a slight more open position - so that each time you operate the latch, it releases from the catch.

Don't move the assembly too far - or the trunk will not be able to lock closed at all.

How do I adjust the trunk lid in my 2007 avalon?

The latch on the CAR, not the trunk, can be adjusted ud or down Usually has bolts on both sides that you can loosen. If you are slamming it to close, Adjust latch up alittle, re-tighten bolts and close trunk. It is an easy adjustment. Just be patient end keep latch level

Switch trunk lids and keeping my orig. lock

If you took the trunk lid off another car and put it on your car, you are going to have to adjust the lock (the part on the inside of the trunk lid) or striker plate or loop (the part on the lower part of the trunk that the lock latches around). no two cars will have the same adjustment of the trunk even though the parts are the same. There should be bolts or screws that you can loosen (not remove) that will allow you to move the lock or striker plate/loop. If you take lipstick and put it on one side of the trunk lock and close the trunk before you loosen the bolts or screws, you might get an idea about how to adjust the parts to make them meet up in proper alignment.

Good Luck
