The cruise control on my 1993 Honda Accord LX, automatic 4 cylinder works sometimes and sometimes not. It worked three days ago. It wouldn't work the next day. The following day it would. Now it won't again? I'm lost! The cruise control in my '93 Accord is very erratic. When I set it the instrument panel light shows that its on but it does one of two things: 1) it doesn't hold the speed at all, or 2) it drops 20 or 30 mph below where I set it, then picks up to the speed I set it at and is very erratic after that, slowing down and speeding up. It can't even stay within 10 mph of the speed I set it at. What is wrong with it!?

Sounds like possibly a safety switch associated with the brake or shifter is engaging intermittently. There is definitely one behind the brake because when you apply the brake the cruise kicks out. Try looking for this switch and check it out.

1993 cruise control stopped working in my honda accord lx

The cheapest place to start is to replace all of the vacuum lines. If they are old, dried out, and cracked, that might be your problem.

Does your speedometer work properly? if not, check your speed sensor. Many times the connection to your speed sensor may be left disconnected especially after clutch replacement.

1995 Accord Intermittent Cruise Control

In response to the request from "emissionwiz" for more clarification of the problem:
This same 1995 Honda Accord was stolen in Atlanta, GA in 2006 and trashed. It was recovered the next day and held 4 days before I got postcard in mail to come pick it up. The battery was dead and the gas tank empty and lots of damage. The insurance made it right including putting a new battery. Two years later, a month before the replacement battery warranty ran out, the battery went dead. The dealer, Nalley Honda replaced the dead battery to satisfy the battery warranty free of charge. Never having had Cruise Control problems before, the Cruise Control failed within minutes after leaving the dealer, Nalley Honda. The Cruise Control only works to maintain speed approximately 20% of the time after the battery swap. What could have been damaged and caused the Cruise Control to fail intermittently ? I can not just ignore this problem because I need the Cruise Control. The digital multimeter I use might be of some help locating the trouble. Maybe you could point me in the right direction so I can hem this in. I read specifications if a wiring diagram is available. As stated before, all indications from the instrument panel tell me the Cruise Control is ON.

The cruise control on my 1993 Honda Accord LX, automatic 4 cylinder works sometimes and sometimes not. It worked three days ago. It wouldn't work the next day. The following day it would. Now it won't...

There are three switches that must be on in order for the cruise to work. There is the main switch on the dash, there is a switch on the shift lever, and there is a switch on the brake pedal. The next time the cruise does not work, first pull the brake pedal up with your foot and try to set it again. If that does not work, try wiggling the shift lever. This may be a good place to start. My bet is with the brake switch. If that is the problem, it needs a minor adjustment and an easy fix.
