SOURCE: how to replace EGR valve on 99 Chevy Tracker
Take off your EGR valve and clean it out with carb cleaner also
grease tyhe little screw thing in it,,, u will c what i mean if u take it apart. carbon builds up in the chamber. it is located at the back left side of your engine and is a bit of a pain to take off. this should save u the cost except for the cleaner and labor. i had the same problem cheapest i found was 90$ on ebay.

the EGR is VERY important to the computer. it constantly gives info to the computer about just how the engine is running, which in turn controls spark advance and fuel delivery.fix that EGR and at least it'll run a little better until you can fix that hose at your vacuum canister.

You can try cleaning it. Go to your local parts store and buy a can of brake cleaner. Remove the EGR valve and spray it into the valve and let it set 8 hours. Pour out the cleaner and clean the carbon off with a wire brush. Reinstall the valve and see if that helps. If not, you will have to buy a new one and it will not cost $316 if you DIY.

Error code will have to be cleared. The way that cars know when to turn on the check engine light is that there is a recurring error for "x" miles or time, as long as that error exists in it's memory most cars will continue displaying the check engine light.
