I am recieving this code P0411 showing an issue with Secondary Air Flow problem. The car seems to be running properly except for a loud fan noise at startup which disappears within 15 seconds.
Any idea as to what this code means/
The P0411 code you are getting with that SAAB is the SECONDARY AIR INJECTION CHECKVALVE 95% of the time. This sometimes will allow condensation to build up in the air lines
that run to the air pump and air filter. Its part of the emmisions BS that they put on these cars. The check valve is costly, its usually about $100 or more depending on where you live I guess but its
much cheaper than $600+ dollars plus labor for a new air pump.
In some uncommon instances this may not be the problem, but this is a known issue with the SAAB Q93 and some other models. Once replaced it should be ok for another 100,000 miles +/-.
Hope this helps as late as I am finding your issue!

Ok first off it helps to know what the SAI or secondary air injection system is. basically what it dose is inject air behind the exhaust valve during cold warm up. this makes an oxygen rich exhast and helps with o2 warmup. now what you vw guys are probly hearing is one of your lines going to the airt pump eather broken or dissconnected or like in my case....broken off and gone...you will probly need to replace said lines.....and they are not fun to try to find...i would suggest a dealer or local partout off the same car...btw guys im a mechanic and i do al my own work on my belovid 96 passat vr6....you wouldnt beleve how much you save doing the work yourself =]
Riotbeast, thanks for the info. if we were mechanics we would be doing all the work, we like to save money too! :D
in my case, it was covered by the warranty. also the mechanics said that it is no big deal. good luck all.
My car had the same problem. I found that the flow was restricted by packed snow. If your plastic cover for the front undercarriage isn't what it used to be, snow and other debris can get inside and cause your problem. If it's snowing where you live, run you car through the car wash and get rid of any packed snow. If it's not snow causing your problem, take off the plastic cover and see if its packed with other debris. That's what I did and the problem went any. Hope that helps, at least it's a cheap check.

I have a 2003 93 Linear. P0411 I just had it diagnosed because the "engine malfunction" light came on. Secondary Airflow Injection. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the performance. The light goes off at times, then it comes back on. Wonder if it is covered by warranty?
I appreciate any help.
I am having the same, identical problem with my "wonderful" VW. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
