I just purchased a used Dodge Dakota 4x4, V6, 5spd manual. When I test drove it the truck was fine, I ran it through the rpm range on the highway and off road without any problems. When I picked it up it was a wet day and it had a sloght stumble on in a while. When I checked under the hood in the dark the arcing could be seen so I repalced the wires, cap, rotor, plugs. The arcing problem was solved, but I still have an intermittent mis fire at the beginning of the day when the truck is first started and then it goes away. If the truck sits for a period of time and then is started the problem is there and clears shortly. This is a real pain in the ****. The truck falls on its face at 3000 rpm due to a misfire of sorts, I'm going to try the easy fix with fuel injector cleaner first, it worked for 1 poster.

I also have this as reported by Neolonot "intermittent mis fire at the beginning of the day when the truck is first started and then it goes away. If the truck sits for a period of time and then is started the problem is there and clears shortly. The truck falls on its face at 3000 rpm due to a misfire of sorts"". I went to a reputable garage, they thought it was a tuneup issue for motor with 140k mi., never been tuned. After the T.U. they spent 3 days testing every thing possible, injector cleaning too, couldn't find the cause. I know they put serious effort into trying to find the problem (at no charge). Finally conceeded they couldn't find/fix it. Suggested I take it to a dealer since a TSB report suggested the computor might have a glitch occuring. Dealer might be able to do some sort of reboot on it.

2001 3.9 dakota has for the past 3 years, intermitently will lose power, completley. If I floor the gas it will start to back fire and then go but as soon as i back off of the gas it will lose power again and start to backfire. The check engine light will come on also. It lasts for as little as a minute to 3 to 4 minutes then it will clear up. Hot, cold, wet, dry. No pattern. Scanned comes up with misfires on different cylndrs. No pattern. Tune ups don't help. I was thinking a bout the catalytic converter but not sure where to go next. Gas milage suffers from this malfunction.

My 2001 Dakota now works fine, I took it to a good reliable shop after much frustration. The problem was the crank position sensor in combination with an bad oxygen sensor. This was a very unusual problem with no consistency therefore hard to diagnose. Crank sensor $190.00 cdn oxygen sensor $130.00 cdn $300.00 in troubshooting, repair and diagnostics. Repaired by Gerald at AutoPro in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Thanks Gerald

Check your fuel filter/pump in the gas tank completely disassemble it and look for a rubber plug in side the disc in the plastic housing you will have to remove the four screws on the side and lift out the disc and you willl probably see a rubber plug halfway sucked into its orafice, reseat it or replace it and then reinstall everything the same way you dissasebled it, fill the tank with high octane gas and a bottle of stp problem solved. we hope! p 0305 is misfire on no 5 cylinder code p1340 refers to camshaft (CMP) sensor 1 bank/ crankshaft position (CKP) sensor ---out of sequence === causes ---valve timing--CMP/CKP sensor installation---CKP sensor rotor
misfires are more injector problems that plugs

I have 1999 318 4x4 dakota with fault coads

These are misfire codes. This means that your vehicle is missing. The 300 is a random misfire and the 305 is for cylinder 5,and the 306 is for cylinder number 6.Check the plugs if they are good then you could have bad coils. They are top of the plugs.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Looking for cylinder diagram/location on 2001 Ford Escape 6 cyl

here's the scoop. There is a TSB that addresses this issue.
First, replace the spark plugs.
Next, replace all 6 COPS, coil on plug. You have to because they feed back into the PCM, Powertrain Control Module and blow the drivers. Then you need to replace the PCM.

This was for 2004-06, but it might apply to yours if it's a 3.0L.

Misfire DTC codes identify which cylinder is misfiring.

Misfire Detection Monitor The Misfire Detection Monitor is an on-board strategy designed to monitor engine misfire and identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression, or any other cause. The Misfire Detection Monitor will be enabled only when certain base engine conditions are first satisfied. Input from the ECT or CHT, MAF and CKP sensors is required to enable the monitor. The Misfire Detection Monitor is also performed during on demand self-test.
  1. The PCM synchronized ignition spark is based on information received from the CKP sensor. The CKP signal generated is also the main input used in determining cylinder misfire.
  1. The input signal generated by the CKP sensor is derived by sensing the passage of teeth from the crankshaft position wheel mounted on the end of the crankshaft.
  1. The input signal to the PCM is then used to calculate the time between CKP edges and also crankshaft rotational velocity and acceleration. By comparing the accelerations of each cylinder event, the power loss of each cylinder is determined. When the power loss of a particular cylinder is sufficiently less than a calibrated value and other criteria is met, then the suspect cylinder is determined to have misfired.
  1. Misfire type A:

Upon detection of a Misfire type A (200 revolutions) which would cause catalyst damage, the MIL will blink once per second during the actual misfire, and a DTC will be stored.

    Misfire type B:

Upon detection of a Misfire type B (1000 revolutions) which will exceed the emissions threshold or cause a vehicle to fail an inspection and maintenance tailpipe emissions test, the MIL will illuminate and a DTC will be stored.

The DTC associated with multiple cylinder misfire for a Type A or Type B misfire is DTC P0300.

    The DTCs associated with an individual cylinder misfire for a Type A or Type B misfire are DTCs P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, P0309 and P0310.
