2001 Oldsmobile Alero Service Engine light, ABS, and Traction light keep coming on. No code, only history. Can not get the history to clear??

Have replaced the front drivers side hub assembly 3x now. The Service Engine light, ABS light, and Traction light keep coming on. However, this time there is no "active" code, only history. Have tried to clear the history with a code reader and by removing the postitive battery cable for approximately 20 minutes. Nothing seems to clear the code and the lights will not go away? Any ideas?

SOURCE: Alero loud humming/roaring sound coming from front end.

That's indicative of a wheel bearing, which is why you were told to change that out. However, it's also possible that the carrier bearings in the differential (where the drive axles attach) have gone bad. That happened to me on my 300ZX several years ago, and I had to replace the diff bearings. I would have them checked out somewhere other than a dealer (you'll probably get a better price from an independent shop).

As a sidenote, to be sure it wasn't a wheel bearing, if you hear it quiet down in a turn one way but get louder in a turn the opposite way, it's likely the wheel bearing. If you turn left at speed and it gets louder, then it's the right bearing (since you're loading up that side of the car). If it gets quieter in a right turn, it's the right side (you're unloading that side of the car and not putting as much weight on it, so it doesn't drag as badly). See if you get that symptom just to be sure that the wrong side front wheel bearing wasn't changed.

SOURCE: anti-lock, traction control, service soon, brake,

I have a 2003 Alero and I have had this happen to me two times. In my case, the lights were coming on because I had a sensor go bad. There are two ABS sensors, one near the front right of the car and one near the front left. My mechanic replaced both (on two separate occasions) and it fixed the warning lights. About $150-200 part.

SOURCE: The check engine, abs, and trac off lights all

Wheel speed sensor that is inside the wheel bearing hub or possibly the wiring harness that connects to the sensor has gone bad. If there are no issues with the harness, then the wheel hub will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: ABS, Service Engine Light

This is normal for your anti-lock brakes to quit when the abs light is on.What you will need to do is retrieve the codes and then you can find out what part of the abs system is giving you the problem. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You can post back and I can help you with the code or codes that are in the brake control module.Hope this helps.

SOURCE: When I start my 2001 alero the anti-lock, traction

the anti-lock and traction lights will come on together if there is a common problem with the two, since they are closely related. may be a wheel speed sensor or something similar. the service engine soon light indicates a problem with the engine computer, can be anything from an emission system problem or an engine performance problem. all of these lights can come on with no apparent running problems on the car. the service vehicle soon light is basically a maintenance reminder, an oil change light. take the car into a shop and have the codes read for these lights.

Service Engine light, ABS light, and Traction light keep coming on and will not clear

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

I have a 03 alero that once in a while the ABS-check engine & traction control lights come on. Then the next time it starts they are not on.

when the abs lights the system will store a fault code.using a scanner with abs capiblity
will retrive the codes.
i would guess a wheel speed sensor is starting to fail.you can inspect sensor wires(@ each wh.
for being loose/dirty also check fuid level if not already done

good luck

What would give a check engine light and antilock brake light but when checked with a scanner it comes back as no codes found ? its an oldsmobile alero

Are you sure its the "Check engine" light and not the "service vehicle soon" light. They are quite different. Only the check engine light will set a code, either current or history. The ABS will also set a code, but will also illuminate the service vehicle soon light. Aleros are notorious for bad front wheel bearings, which contain the wheel speed sensors for the ABS system. They also have issues with the wiring harnesses going to the wheel speed sensors. Have the front wheel bearings checked for excessive play first, then I would suspect the harness, especially if the lights tend to come on more so when its raining or wet out.

My car has several lights on and im not sure why. I have 2001 olds alero with 125,000 miles on it. The service engine light and the anti- lock and abs lights come on and stay on here lately. any clues why?...

I'll try to answer these as asked.
1. check engine light is telling you that you have an emission control problem and needs to be scanned for codes.
2. The abs and traction control light are connected and when the abs sets a problem code it will turn both on , It also needs to be scanned for codes.
3. Having a tire that is a diffrent size or more worn than others will set the tire pressure lamp and it can be cleared by removing the fuse panel door on the side of the dash and holding the red button in with the key on engine off untill it flashes or beeps and goes out.

The service light, anti lock light, and traction

you most likely have an ABS problem you will need to have it scanned to get the code

When I turn the steering wheel the low trac light

The steering wheel position, wheel speed sensors, and ABS systems are all used to provide traction control. You likely have a failure of one or more systems. Scan the ABS system and it will provide codes to help the diagnosis. Wheel speed sensors fail often, and it is likely one or more of these is contributing to the problem.

Anti Lock, No Traction and Service Engine Light on

The wheel speed sensors are in the wheel bearings, so they should be okay. There is a a technical service bulletin for issues with the wiring harness that sends the signal from the sensors...if the harness is damaged it will act like a faulty sensor.
