I have a 94 Prelude VTEC with an H22a1 that has a loss of power. I just bought the car a week ago. When I first started driving the car the engine was running really good. There is no CEL on. I don't know what it is. I don't know if it is the timing. It is weird, because sometimes it will get the power back and then just lose it again. I can definitely tell it has a loss of power, its not running like an H22 should. Anyways, I replaced the spark plugs and changed the oil. I don't know if there is a bad connection. I took the negative terminal off the battery to change the fuel filter but I had to put the fuel filter back on because the bolt didn't fit the new one. I took the AEM air intake off and put it back on. I tightened the spark plugs to the right torque specs also. I don't know what is causing this. What should I check?

You may have sludge in the idle air bypass valve and or the throttle blade is sludged up, clean them with an approved spray cleaner, call honda and ask what they recommend. You may also have a loss of fuel press due to a defective check valve in the fuel pump, in that case cranking time is increased quite a bit, as much as 5 or 10 seconds.

Sounds like an ignition component failure check for proper resistance through primary and secondary ignition coil windings, refer to service repair manual for exact specs, also the ignitor magnetic pick up may be not up to snuff, the only other ignition component to replace or check is the ignition module and/or plug wires themselves, sometimes when extreme demand is put on the ignition system the plug wires must be high quality and completely isolated from one another. Spark plug wires when routing cannot come in contact with one another in the slightest proximity.

Unfortunately you probably need a new distributor. There are three pick-up coils mounted down inside the base of it. They go bad quite commonly. The unfortunate part is; the new distributor will come with a new cap, rotor, coil and module...which you have already bought. The distributors are not that expensive though, maybe you can sell the extra parts???

Sounds like the catalitic converter/s are clogged up. This would cause low air flow and low compression. I've seen them so bad that they dropped the compression down to 60 lbs.
