ONE REAR AIR SHOCK IS LEAKING IN MY 2002 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AIR SHOCK IS LEAKING OIL. WHAT SHOULD BE DONE? CAN IT BE REPAIRED OR DOES IT NEED TO BE REPLACED? IF IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, DO YOU NEED TO REPLACE BOTH REAR SHOCKS OR JUST THE LEAKING ONE? HOW DO I REPAIR OR REPLACE THE SHOCK?

You could replace the one shock but do you know why it is leaking oil? Typically unless there was something traumatic to happen to one of the rear shocks, then if one is going you can almost be the other one will go soon. I ended up having too many problems with the air ride suspensions. If you haven't yet, look into conversion kits as something to consider for down the road if nothing else. www.strutmasters.com has a great kit that is made in America and comes with a lifetime warranty. They have a good reputation and track record and can help you save some money and find the permanent solution if anything else goes wrong.

The rear shock will need to be replaced if it is leaking oil. depending on the mileage on the rear shocks, you may want to replace them as a pair. many of the bonnevilles have a rear air shock self leveling system and it is not that hard to replace one or both of them. make sure to check all the rubber and/or plastic air supply hoses for cracks or loose fit as this will let the rear air shocks to bleed down and cause possible damage to them. if you have not done this type of repair before, i would recommend getting help from a mechanic or reference a repair manual.

Hi, you must replace that shock and its not that big a deal=
i did both sides of a 2000 ssei in 1.5 hours- shocks- munroe airmax were 100 for both not bad price

two bolts in trunk under liner on wheel and 1 bolt on the bottom
1 loosen 2 bolts on trunk nly half way
2 jack up car and ssupport the control arm that shock is bolted to with jack
remove bottom bolts- air line from shhock

take bolt off bottom so jack is holding it on
4 take two bolts from top in trunk
5 slowly lower the control arm jack and the shock will come off--
you can push up on shock to msake smaller to get it out
6 put in new shock- top spacer and bolts on top- you jack up the shock so the top pole of shock goes into hole in trunk
look at the mount where the shock hits the wheel hole- if rusted\damaged- replace it- two bolts on top in trunk
7 put bottom bolt on and make all 3 tight
8 slowly lower control arm and watch and listen to see if shock is loose
9 lower car and drive test short- put on wheel!!.....lol
10 look at it after test and check things again for loose- you will feel it if you drive

happy trails

What Rear Shock absorbers do you recomend most for a 2002 bonneville SSEi?

Replace them with air shocks. I just bought mine on line for 67 dollars each compared to $100.00 + each anywhere else. Nothing else will fit. Change over kits are very expensive and require special tools to do the job let alone the time it will take to do the job.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville my air blows hot air out on my driver side and cold on the passanger side. Iv set the Temp on both side to 60 and nothing changes it

Sounds as if the door actuator has quit working on the driver's side. this is a very difficult unit to access and should be done with courage or by an expert "groan" dealer.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville. Brake Fluid is leaking from ABS box. What to do?

if you have fluid that is only leaking from the abs unit and the brake lines are all tight and not leaking at the unit then you have an abs unit leak and it will have to be replaced and bleed as well as the entire system should be bled to get all the air out.the unit may have to be bled by the use of a scan tool with the capablility to bleed the unit electronically

I have a 95 bonneville and wanted to know what is the air valve for in the trunk..and how do i know it is working

sounds like it's for air shocks.
look under rear at shocks and see if there is rubber around the middle of shock.
if there is then maybe it's for them
