How hot does the engine get in degrees F? The radiator fan won't turn on till about 220 degrees F. You can use non-contact temp gun to check engine temp.
Any applicable trouble codes? Around here, some of the national brand auto stores will check p0 codes for free, if there are any.
You can use digital multimeter, ohms setting, Check across sensor terminals, as the engine warms up, the resistance is less. Just to see if working properly. If you want the exact specs, I'll try to find it. All I can do is help with testing. You have to do the testing.

SOURCE: Ford Escort -1998 low temperature gage

Replace the thermostat, if that does not cure the issue you have a slight head gasket leak. I am a retired Ford dealer tech and this is what I have found causes this issue.

SOURCE: Where is the coolant block drain plug located on

None on the block, other than freeze plugs...
The only drain is on the bottom of the radiator (you knew that)...

I installed a Prestone motor flush kit and it flushes just fine, but does not "empty" the engine cavities. This is better, anyway.

You have to splice a "Tee" fitting into a convenient heater hose (highest one).

Hope this helps..

SOURCE: Ford Escort cooling fan not working, Wiring

check the fuses there s also fuses in the engine bay, also check the wiring to the fan,the wires lead back to the main loom so if you are trying to trace the wire back its easier to take this out to check it but make a note of what connects to what.

1998 ford escort thermostat sensors.. do they control the fan? or the opening of the thermostat?

There are probably Experts with more experience on this engine but I will try to help. You need to fix the broken wire or replace that sensor. That being said, there are some Ford engines which have 2 water sensors with one operating the coolant fan and the second for the dash gauge or trouble light. The electric coolant fan can also have 2 speeds.

For lack of water circulation, this is a water issue. The most probable cause is a stuck thermostat or air lock. I remember someone writing into Fixya about a plastic impeller falling off the water pump and it might be a good idea to check out a new water pump or pull your old water pump from the old engine and see if the impeller is plastic.

Finally, were there any issues with the replacement motor? It is possible to have bad head gaskets or clogged water passages. This would be hard to check. Having a motor of KNOWN quality can protect you from problems like this.

1992 Ford Tempo Coolant Fan

the "sensor " near the thermostat should have 2 ,3 or 4 wires to it
if it only has one wire , that is the temp gauge sender unit and not the coolant sensor the coolant temp sensor reports to the ecm and that unit then switches on the fan relay that spins the fan
if you unplug the coolant sensor and the fan starts to run you have a serious coolant temp sensor circuit problem
take it to an accredited service center and have it sorted

My 1998 Ford Excort coolant fan won't come on. The relay is good.

try coolant temp sensor...you can also run a wire directly from the battery to make sure the fan is good.

Car running rough. smells like it is overheating. fan comes on for a/c replaced the fuse for the fan. running it a while it starts to leak out of the overflow

two things if the fans are coming on for normal egnine operation, then the thermostat is not opening. if they aren't then you have a bad coolant temperture sensor. I don't know what engine you have, but if you follow the top radiator hose to the engine you will find the thermostat housing to replace the thermostat. And the sensor is usually located on the housing or real close to it.

How to install a coolant temp sensor in a 1995 ford escort

The coolant temperature switch and fan control switch are located sie by side, mounted in the steel portion of the heater hose that runs from the thermostat housing to the firewall, it is underneath the air intake tube and the ignition coil pack, mounted to the back of the cylinder head. Either drain out some coolant or be very quick, and you can unplug and unscrew each switch from the hose and replace it with a new one. Make sure the engine is cold. After replacing make sure to check the coolant level add as neccessary. The single wire connector switch is for the guage, and the other is for fan control. Hope this helps, let me know.

How do i remove and refit water pump on my ford escort 1.8 16v, t

You will need to remove the raidator and the water pump is located directly behind the fan. Remove it and clean all the gasket off the engine. Refit the new one with the gasket and refit the radator and fan. Remember to refill the radator the coolant.
