SOURCE: Smoke from exhaust... toyota rav4 1996

Welcome to FIXYA

There in only 1 thing i can think of where the white smoke is from it could be anitfreeze if so it would mean a cracked head or a bad head gasket if it gets worse then you have a big problem but if you check the water level and it looks fine then you should be ok for a while

if it was black smoke or a real dark gray then it would be oil

i hope this helps you out have a good day

valve seals could be worn out letting oil get into the combustion chamber making that white smoke.if you have alot of miles of miles on your engine it just be time for a rebuild or replacement

Hi entrepreneur,
Was what came out smoke or vapour....Sounds as if you may have been using it on auto and if so just have alook at the LED on the selction button....is it flashing out a code or is it a steady light?....It could be the expansion valve or it may be the electronic control unit....If you have a code that's showing....count the number of flashes it gives....thats the fault code number....Get that info first, so that we can go on from there....

SOURCE: Rough idle until warm 22r

if it is a carburated engine it is probably the a.a.p. diaphragm in the carb. if you remove the air cleaner and look on the side of the carb that is towards the valve cover near the front yow will see a vacuum hose going to a cover that is fastened with 3 screws. if you pull the vacuum line off you will see that there is probably fuel being sucked into the line due to the leaking diaphragm. the vacuum source is temp controlled and cuts off when warm. but when cold sucks fuel directly into the intake. remove the 3 screws to replace the diaphragm, being carefull of the spring. good luck!

Sounds like you have a leaking head gasket maybe. Does the smoke have a sweet smell to it? If not it is oil or fuel.

I have a 5L-E toyota hilux that runs fine at idle yhen when you rev it to about 2000 rpm it starts to blow alot of white smoke. I have cut injectors out while the smoke is blowing with no noticable...

i believe the engine is running too lean as if it was running too rich it would blow black smoke If it was blue smoke it is oil related eg valve stem seals, valve guides and or piston rings all of these things will create blue smoke if one of the above is worn out

1993 toyota previa was on hwy wouldn't go over 70mph then started losing power took first off ramp by then alot of white smoke was coming out the back end and died before it came to a stop

and oil level on engine is full?
was that smoke oil smoke or steam,?
no matter, id do a compression test on it,
if the engine (unstated type) is interference engine
id do a leak down test by hand, so as to limit further damage.

I get white smoke on start up, once warm its fine but when i put my foot down a bit every now and then i get a bit of smoke

Hello
White smoke is usually a sign of water in the oil, being burnt along with fuel in the cylinders.

Check your oil if there is a milky white color on the dipstick then you need to take it in for service.

Second
You may need to have your fuel sysytem cleaned and checked, sometime white smoke can be from improper fuel mixture.
