This is how i changed the plugs in my old 3.1 Lumina. Remove the top motor mounts. Set the parking brake and start the motor. Shift to Reverse. This will tilt the motor forward and allow you some access to the plugs in the back. To get the motor back into position to reattach the mounts, just release the parking brake and the motor shound rock back into position. It may be necessary to shift to drive, though. You might have to jam a metal bar somewhere in between the motor and frame to get it to maintain position. It's been a while since I've done it, so I don't exacly remember where I jammed the bar. But this is still the easiest way I've found of accessing those rear plugs. Hope this helps you out. Best of luck!
I would first get a tune up on It. You know change the spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil, oil filter, air filter and also change the fuel filter and see if that helps.
Place the parking brakes on and disconnect the two front dog bone motor mounts. With the transmission placed in park and a friend, free up the parking brake and have your friend push the car forward till the engine rotates far enough for you to work on the rear spark plugs. Put the parking brakes back on and place wheel chalk to the front and rear wheels to ensure the car does not move and you loose an arm.
Good luck and thank you for using FIxya
It can be done just be patient and use good lighting. Feel for the plug and than close your eyes and patiently try to retrace your steps to find the same hole. Do one at a time and don't get frustrated. You do nothave to take off the coil packs or rotate the engine. It's tight but you can get your hand back there . . .
It took me 90 mins (same as an exp tech would take) to do all 6 and I have no special tools or exp. I'm just very patient.
