I would check the armrest controls for a bad switch, or a door pin switch that is corroded and not releasing all the way when door is open. Many systems do not allow locking if there is a "door ajar" situation. On a sedan, this condition seems to oddly occur most on rear passenger doors.

Any errors or problems that mount up, make diagnostics harder and more expensive. ignoring many problems will result in a much larger diagnostic bill later, so best to maintain all systems.

Ignition lock cylinder has a key-minder circuit. This must be working correctly on most cars for the keyless entry to effectively lock the vehicle. Intermittent ignition lock "buzzing" when doors are closed, and key is in lock position must be resolved

Some possibilities

The power door locks may self-activate or cycle on some vehicles. This may be caused by a misadjusted front door lock linkage, excess solder in the front door power window switch, water infiltration of a potential open wire harness connector inside the front doors, wiring harness chafe on the door check strap, or a damaged Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key fob.

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable 4 door. I cannot program my key less remote. I use to be able to use it until I had to get a new battery for it. I think that's when it stopped working.

I'm not 100% on this one but 99.9% sounds like the body control module was reset. The car would have to be brought to the dealer to SYNCH the BCM & security system. Possibly just SYNCH just
the remotes to the car. Good Luck, Frank M

Program keyless remote for 94 Grand Marquis

On this model you will have to open glove box and press the tabs on each side so that you can open it all the way open. You will see a 2 wire grey connector behind it.
Turn ignition switch to run postion then take a paper clip or something like that and momentarily short the 2 wires together.
The door locks should then cycle from lock to unlock.Remove the paper clip then press one of the buttons on each remote. When you press the button on the remote door locks should cycle again to confirm that it programed. Then when finished turn off the ignition switch and door locks should unlock to confirm you have exited programming mode.

Doubt its a fuse. Most likely the key pad has failed and needs to be replaced. On the bright side this is a good problem to have and you have a very reliable car.
