1995 jeep cherokee sport has started just cutting off while i am driving down the road. when i bought it there ws a problem with it not starting when i cut it off. some time it would start if i put it in netural right away then sometime it would not start for days. what is the problem.
Sounds as though you have two separate problems. Not cranking until you jiggle the shifter sounds like a prindle switch (neutral safety switch), the second sounds like a bad electronic ignition control module. Might want to approach and repair the switch problem first, then move on to diagnose the remaining problem while the fault is present and active.
Vehicle will not start (I assume you mean won't "crank" / "turn-over") until wiggle gear in park or neutral - Replace the Neutral Safety Switch. First check terminal connection (plug)) if okay replace Neutral Safety Switch. The Neutral Safety Switch will not cause the vehicle to shut off while driving.
To diagnose stalling - next time it stalls and doesn't start check for spark and fuel. With no check engine light or codes mentioned in your post also indicates it is a spark or fuel problem (ignition problem/not emission problem (the sensors)). Keep smiling.

when a cherokee have trouble starting i always go to the crank sensor first it on top of trasmission you crank the motor on the fly wheel you have accumulation of rust and before the crank sensor notice the engine turning it take a long time me i remove the crank sen sor visualy check if it crank i change it and i used some abrasiv sand paper or something like that i ask somebody to crank the engine i put the sand paper in the hole of crank sensor when the engine turn sand paper clean the flyweel be carefull for our finger after install the sensor and try it out good luck pierre

I'd suggest the ignition control module, however I'd have a certified mechanic check it out just in case...

could also be bad map sensor and crankshaft sensor postion on top of trannny near engine and map on firewall behind engine with one plu and a vac line same problems on my ride and this hooked it up

low or no oil pressure bad-- knock can be damage from no oil rod knock, wrist pin, piston or spun bearing-or oil pump damaged in oil pan
