Loss of power sometimes I have 1991 Honda civic DX, from day one. 451000km on it. Very well looked after. runs fine, but some time loss of power and do not want to go over 50-60km, until unless the engine light comes on and then it runs normal again. Never quits or stops. I replaced spark plugs and main relay. Problem still exist. If I shift in neutral at this time, I find the idling normal. Car is four speed auto. auto

Even the best kept vehicle can have an EGR problem. Makes no difference what else you do to it to TRY to make it run better, until you replace the Exhaust Gases Recirculation valve, you'll always have the problem. Replace the EGR, no more problem.

SOURCE: 1997 Honda Civic EX power loss

start with the easy stuff. check the plugs. make sure they are not wet with oil leaking from the spark plug stem seals located on the rocker cover. Check your air filter to make sure its clean. Now for the slightly harder stuff. The spark plug wires should be changed every 80k or so. My suspect the reason for the power loss is most likely a clogged cat convert in the exhaust system. check your exhaust flow. Way to do that is to check the temp. of the exhaust before the cat and the temp. after the cat. If the Cat is plugged the temp before the catalytic converter will be abnormally higher than after the cat.

BUT if you are experiencing misfire of engine. I would go straight to replacing spark plugs and wires. Distributor cap and rotor.

Also check the charging system. make sure the alternator is charging the battery at above 13Volts. With all components on. ( radio/lights/highbeam/AC). Use a voltmeter and check at the battery positive and negative. if its not charging above 13 V replace the alternator.

good luck

SOURCE: 1991 Honda Civic DX starting problem

normally that happens with a fuel pump going bad or your ignition coil gets to hot n shuts down. when it happens again, take your spark plug wire off, have someone to help you start the car if no spark its gotta be your fuel pump

SOURCE: 91 honda civic dx. Starts, runs for a few seconds then stalls

Try pounding on the gas tank with a rubber mallet or similar tool. (careful not to dent the tank) Try starting it. If it runs, replace the fuel pump (it's nfg). I've diagnosed numerous fuel pumps this way. Remember the pump needs to be replaced, if you drive it, you don't know when it'll fail for good. Hope this helps. Please post the results.

SOURCE: 1993 Jeep Cherokee starts when cold. Runs short distance.

It can possibly be the crank position sensor mounted on the top of the bell housing on the passenger side of the vehicle causing the problem. I have replaced a few of these for the same reason.

SOURCE: 1991 Honda Civic 1500 idles irregularly, with check engine light.

I think I would suspect the fuel injectors, especially since that is the code you are getting. Fuel injectors clog up, get dirty, stop working the way they should. They can be cleaned (you can remove them and send them to a company that cleans them and makes them like new, or, they can be cleaned in the car by some garages, or, you can get a can of Sea Foam spray and spray it into your throttle housing several times to try to do some cleaning that way, or, you can dump a can of Sea Foam (non-spray) into your gas tank and run it with the fuel through your injectors). You should probably check when you first start the car to see if you are getting any leakage from one or another injector (one or another may look moist or wet if the seals are leaking). You can also do the long screwdriver test (hold the bit of the screwdriver against each injector in turn and listen with your ear against the other end to see if each is clicking regularly). I would try the Sea Foam first.
I hope this is helpful in getting you started on a fix.

Have you checked the fuse panel located under the hood? Hondas typically have several large amperage fuses in this fuse block that could cause the total power loss that you decribed. The hazard lights may be wired separately as a safety precaution (i.e.--not leaving you on the side of the road without hazard lights).

No fire

first thing i would check would be your spark control module.Located in the distributer under the rotor.take it down to your local autoparts store for testing.have them test it three times in a row to get it to operating temp.if it passes then check your coil with a multimeter.
