CV axle stuck in the transmission. Can't get it out on 1993 Mercury Capri. Never happend this before. What can possibly be preventing from comming out? I have used pry bar, and do not want to over do it to crack the transaxle case. Has anybody encountered this before? How was it resolved?
The axle must be removed in a sharp snapping motion and it must be pulled straight out, use a large pipe wrench and quickly snap it back while holding the axle shaft straight out, they do get stuck but it will come out believe me.. The heavier the weighted objects you use to slide along the shaft to snap it out the better, I have a huge Crescent adjustable open end wrench (about 6 pounds) that I use. The only thing that holds the axle in is a round internal snap ring that sits in the groove inside the transmission case.
I tried your advise. Used a pipe wrench and used a heavy hammer to blow straight in line with the shaft, but shaft won't budge. Tried with at least 10-15 times, but no luck. Took out the snap ring and remove the axle from the race. I'll go to Autozone and get the puller and see if that'll do the trick. Don't want to break anything inside.
Don't know what you are doing wrong here but good luck.
Im having the same problem. I have removed the drive shalf and only left the hub in the tramsmission. that is what I cant get to come out. I can turn it left and right very easy and it will move in and out about a 1/4 inch. I have gone so far as to drill holes in the hud and place a 3/8 bolt through them . I use it to attach a 20# slide hammer and it still will not come out. I've even turned the hub a little at a time while using the slide hammer. I have seen all the you tubes video on this and tried them all, with no luck.
Any suggestions?
