1997 k1500 just quit and will not start

1997 k1500 truck was running and just quit. Truck will turn over but will not start. Replaced the fuel pump and relay and still will not start. Checked power to the fuel pump and the middle wire in the 3 wire plug is hot when key is on the other two are not. Checked fuses and they are good. Replaced the wire harness in the tank on the pump and still nothing. Reason for replacing the wire harness in the tank was that the two wires that go to the pump looked like they got hot and melted together. This also made one terminal on the pump get black and burned looking. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for the information psds4. I have not tried the suggestions that you posted yet. Thought I would add this. This is on a family members truck and he disconneted the battery again and let it sit for a little while. He went back and hooked the cables back and the truck started. He said it worked for a while and went to drive it some and the truck quit again and will not start. Does this sound like a control module to you? I understand that sometimes the heat will kill the ignition on the module and after cooling and or undoing the battery to reset the computer will temperarly fix this. Any ideas.

    Thanks,

I have this sam problem with my K1500. My truck turns over but will not start. If I let it sit over night, the next morning, it will start. I was just driving it tonight and it just died on me. Is it the fuel pump or something else?

Our truck died two weeks ago...we thought it was the starter as the motor wasn't turning over. Replaced it, ran fine for two weeks and now it's dead again. The starter is working as it tries to turn over. Replaced plugs, wires. Fuel pump is working and filter is new.

We have no idea what to do next.

I had a similar problem when the hose came off the charcoal filter in the front left, had to purge the system by removing the green cap beside the cannister, and with the key turned on, pressed down on the valve to release the air. Started right up almost immediately.

Truck wont start unless i pour some fuel in throttle body truck quits after dumped fuel burns off

sounds like the fuel pump or filter needs replaced. pull out line off filter underneath and turn key. if fuel comes out slow try replacing filter and trying again. if pressure is still low fuelpump is bad or a blown fuse or bad relay.

I have a 1997 K1500 350 engine and I have to poor gas in the throtle body to get it to start. Runs fine after starting, but as soon as you turn off it will not crank and then you have to repeat. Note: The...

Had same exact problem on my 97 k1500, although it would crank after shutting off it just would not start. I fixed the problem by replacing the fuel pump in the tank. I learned that the 5.7 liter needs something like 80 psi to start but will run on around 55-60 psi (fuel pressure)

1997 Chevy K1500 Z71 Chevy fuel injector problem

Did you check fuel pressure to make sure you are getting proper fuel pressure? If it will start with starting fluid then it has to be either fuel related or electrical. Are you getting power to your fuel relay? When you turn the key on can you hear your fuel pump come on? I would not use anymore starting fluid at all to try and start it other wise you cause major problems.

Hard Starts, Rough Idle

Certainly possible.Key on /engine off cycles the pump for 3 secs.In a quiet place like an enclosed garage you can hear these pumps running and at this stage it might sound abnormal, louder and squeel-ish in a sense. Then can be verified by taking fuel pressure readings with a test gauge...good luck

there is 2 injectors on your truck and one is the start injector and its job is to inject a blast of fuel into the intake when the key is turned on. that injector is either faulty, clogged, or not getting any power.

Hard start

Its your fuel pump.I had the same plomblem not too long ago.I was spraying either in to start it.I have a 97 chevy truck witch requires 65 psi to start and 55 to run properly. You need to find out much psi you need to start it.You can probaly look in your manual or just make a few calls. My truck had 55 psi and it ran fine i just had to get it running first.Good luck.I wonder if that fuel pressure regulator was a waste of time like it was for me.
