SOURCE: can i still drive a 95 buick riviera with a bad

if your supercharger sounds like tumbling rocks, it is the plastic coupler between the nose cone and the charger body; take off your serpentine belt; chances are the pulley has some play in it but it turns freely; the replacement coupler is a cheap fix; what gets a lil pricey is the labor to replace it... the buick has an alternator bracket that has to come off before you can take the nose off of the supercharger... dont forget to drain the oil from the nose cone with a spray bottle nozzle

SOURCE: '95 Buick Riviera, SuperCharger. Car won't Start up!

unplug the cam sensor behind the water pump pulley; see if it starts; if it does, shut off engine; replace both cam and crank sensors because crank sensors go out in these engines

SOURCE: Water pump removal on a 1996 Buick Riviera (supercharged)

there are two bolts that hold the power steering pump in place that are accesable through the holes in the pulley. If you use a 6" extension and a 1/2" socket you can reach them. this will allow the pump to be removed and hang by the hoses and be out of the way. I was told also to inspect the cam sensor while it is apart because you have to remove the water pump in order to get to it.

New super charge is knocking

Not sure what the problem is hear, it knocks, well if it is full of oil and the oil is the correct type then the supercharger is defective would be my guess. Since that is a guess have a local dealer confirm the SC is the noise. It could be lower engine noise as well don't you think?.

1995 buick riviera 3.8 supercharged engine. Cold start issue. have to restart multiple times and it barely runs...spits back again and again until the engine warms up. once warm it runs correctly and...

Hello lysiphlebus2,

((My thoughts: cold START valve IAC at very bottom))

Plenty of places will do FREE diagnostic code reads.

I would rather suggest it be a muffler shop than
AUTOZONE... but either is better than guessing.

AUTOZONE will likely make you buy OXYGEN
sensors... (but that makes about as much sense as
buying a new THERMOMETER every-time you
have a FEVER.

What you are describing sounds (from an old
mechanic's perspective) like a collapsing
catalytic convertor or rotted muffler baffle
(a slightly better blockage will halt operation
completely)...

((again speculation... get your codes read))...

Do not buy OXYGEN SENSORS....

Know your prices before waltzing into any
exhaust shop.

CAN YOU REPLACE A 3.8 WITHOUT THE SUPERCHARGER IN A 96 RIVIERA THAT HAD ONE IN IT IN THE BEGINNING

THE ENGINE WILL BOLT RIGHT UP. YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE THE ELECTRONICS, SENSORS, ECM PROGRAM, ETC. WHY NOT PUT THE SUPERCHARGER ON THE NEW ENGINE? IT SHOULD BOLT UP. MORE POWER IS BETTER AND YOUR MILEAGE SHOULD BE AROUND 30MPG.
