2001 Audi TT ''brake pad worn'' warning lamp

I just bought this car used 1 week ago and it worked just fine all week. I tried to teach someone how to drive a stick today and the brakes were used pretty heavily but the brake pads look fine. Now when I start the car after about 1 min the brake pad worn symbol is displayed and I get a warning beep. The warning does not go away until I turn the car off and back on then it is fine until I start to move. Could this happen just by jarring the brakes?
What is the solution?

The brake pad warning lite will come on when one of the sensors at the wheels grounds out against rotor indicating pads are close to replacement.

Esp dashboard warning light is constantly on... TT quatro 2002
warning lights are usually got to do with the electronics in the carm so you should go to a mechanic and ask him to check the cars electronics which is free and he will probably say your electronic wiring is smashed the cheapest thing to do is rewire your car it would cost 100-250 euro where as if you got the car comprimised it would cost 700-900 euro
