My friend and I went to purchase a 1994/95 Carolla AE 110 for him. When we test drove it, I put my foot flat on the excellerator and realized that the car was not going as fast as it should. The owner said that he had it checked and the results showed that the throttle body was the problem, is this correct? Thanks in advance.

I would think catalytic converter going bad...When they go bad that's one of the things a car does....And it's a old enough car to be having problems from the converter... Sometimes the car will run just a little hotter than normal but want run totally hot..I would have it checked...That might be the reason he's getting rid of it..But It will run good again if you replace it...But it's not cheap..Also keep the old one...There worth more than scrap medal...But this could be the issue.

Could be a lot of reasons. Throttle body is possible, but could be clogged exhaust, valve timing, vacuum leaks, bad maf, the list goes on and on. Have a mechanic diagnose for you.

Have they replaced the coil on #5?? There are no plug wires on this motor. They have ignition coils mounted atop the sparkplugs called COPs. If a misfire is still detected, possible coil malf or cam or crank sensor malf. Hopefully this helps

What causes loss of excelleration while driving

It sounds like either your fuel pump has quit or your fuel filter is badly plugged. If you crank it for a while and do not smell gasoline back at the exhaust, your fuel pump has probably quit.

99 intrepid stays in 1st gear.

On the tranny there are input and output speed senors,it sounds like your input speed sensor went bad, this was a very common problem for those cars, and not very expensive to fix. The car is stuck in what they call limp mode.

Oil light goes on and off and engine has a knocking sound.

This sounds like severe engine damage, do to loss of internal lubrication (no oil). That's the bad thing about 'idiot' warning lights, they come on when u have a severe problem, and the damage is done. You are going to probably have to purchase a used engine from an auto salvage yard, or purchase a re -manufactured engine. Sorry for the bad news, this is about as bad as it gets.
