Replaced the timing belt and pullys on my 99 ford escort zx2 last week. I reset the timing and it ran great until yesterday. The front side of the timing belt was chewed off so I replaced the belt this morning. I left the top timing belt cover off to have a look while the car was running and the belt is still walking to the front of the cam pullys any solutions? 99 zx2 dohc 2.0

SOURCE: timing belt diagram for 2001 ford escort zx2 dohc

cam shaft timing marks on back of cams ,two slots ,use a flat piece of metal to align .remove no1 spark plug and drop long thin screwdriver down it to bring piston just below tdc, then align cams so both cams are on the rock (valves closed) with knob on back cam aligning with pick up sensor left side between lobes.then bring piston up to tdc and fit belt.turn engine over twice with socket on bottom pulley to make sure no valves clear pistons.Remember to remove flat edge from back of cams i didnt last time and bent my home made tool

2002 Ford ZX2 301&302codes new timing belt wires

FORD ESCORT.THE TWIN CAM, DOHC.ENGINE.
do not mix up coil pack 4HV wires or wrecks firing order
THE PCM + PACK SETS FIRING ORDER.
WIRED WRONG THERE IS NO RUNNING, ENGINE.
I WILL POST A BETTER PACK FROM NGK
do not change HV wires unless 1 at a time.
if one HV wire fails 2 plugs go dead.
this tech is called wasted spark.
the misfire is real and plug 1 and 3 are dead
flashing CEL means CAT melts next with flood of raw fuel landing on the CAT input.
first learn the 3 rules of spark engines
good engine, 150psi or more, and cam belt not SLIPPED.
next is spark if spark is good fuel is last
cant burn fuel on dead engine or dead spark or timed backwards.
301means weak combustion#1ONLY THAT>
why is next. and that takes tools GOT TOOLS?
99% do not here and want 50 guesses.
if used a timing light (spark tool) and timing is wayoff
the belt was put in wrong
or coil pack wired wrong.,OMG not both, sigh./

Zx2 ran fine for a bit after timing belt change, now no start.

suspect the timing belt tension was to low and has jumped a few teeth initially(run rough) and then jumped further or stripped teeth(will not start at all).
check timing belt position setup....
if its 1-2 teeth out of timing you could put a new belt on with engine correctly setup.
.if its completely wrong the your engine will have internal damage(valves bent and pistons dented)

I need serpentine belt diagram for '01 ford escort ZX2

No Prolem! Look at the pullys on the engine. Notice some are grooved while others are not? The grooved pulleys go on the inside of the belt or the grooved side of the belt, while the smooth pulleys go on the outside or smooth oart of the belt. Works with All belts on all engines!

Changed timing belt on my 99 ford escort zx2 car no

if you have a no spark scenario i would check your crank sensor located at the top left side of the harmonic balance pulley.the crankshaft (about 11'oclock) a 2 wire plug with a sensor on it check to see if it is damaged or unsecured. this sensor can cause no spark if not working correctly. This sensor is based of frequency not voltage testing is difficult, just make sure that there isnt too muck air gap. and that it is secured.Lastly may want to check timing possible that the belt has jumped some teeth and she has fallen out of timing. maybe a bad tensioner The coil will adapt i think up to 10 degree, ****** or advance. Good luck

Did you replace the ideler arm? see if you can wiggle any of the pullys if they move or have end play you will have to fix the pully to get the belt to saty on. be sure belt is on straight.

99 ford escort se gets no power and stutters.

When was the last time the timing belt was replaced on it? The cam timing may be retarded back from belt stretch creating this problem. Another thing to check out is if your catalytic converter may be partially plugged up.
