I have a 1984 Nissan 300zx starts ok but shuts down after a couple minutes. starts again ok. you can hear the fuel pump shut off - its not a relay switch - we have checked them all. Unhooked the battery for about 15 min to re-set the CPU but it still shuts off. any ideas? thanks!

SOURCE: 1984 nissan pickup fuel pump relay location

If it's like mine, the relay is located on the passenger side fender wall. You should see a set of 5 relays together. It is the first one in the back.

SOURCE: I need to find the ECU relay for an 86 NISSAN 300zx.

The ECU is probably under the passenger seat. The battery also has a fusible link which may be blown. Also follow the battery wiring to the regulator box. This may also be faulty.

SOURCE: 1985 NISSAN 300ZX. PROBLEM STARTING THE CAR AFTER

Sounds like the warm start choke. It positions the carb butterflies when the car is warm and adjusts the fuel mixture.

Testimonial: "THANKS FOR THE QUICK RESPONSE BENCJR. THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL. I'll check the warm start choke per your excellent advise| Thanks, Dave"

Where is fuel cut off switch,1984 nissan 300zx non turbo

Why would it have a switch? Fuel cut off switches are found on race cars. The closest thing you probably have is a fuel pump relay. As for the location of that, this thread is good: http://forums.nicoclub.com/1984-300zx-fuel-pump-relay-location-t567634.html

84 300zx will start some times will run a few seconds than shuts off, it has gas at line from filter to fuel rail

an inexpensive check would be the vacuum lines. Catalytic converter is suspect here also.

Fuel pump wont shut off. It sounds like it goes thru normal cycle and it is like it shuts half way off when turning car off. I pulled tank and pump did find a short, I fixed it, BUT, after hooked battery...

Check the fuel pump relay. Unplug it the next time you have this problem and check for power (12vdc +)at all of the four terminals--only one should have power when the key is off. If this is the case the trouble is probably the relay itself. If two of the terminals have power, then the relay is likely find and you have to look further to find the source of the problem.

Loss of power at 2400 rpm's

Check your mass airflow meter. If it's bad, at least on my 1990 300ZX, the car won't rev over 2400RPM (it's a safeguard built into the ECU of the car). Grab one from a scrapyard and swap it in and see if that fixes the issue.
