Could be a leak. Could have air in the lines. You will find the cluth slave cylinder and bleeder screw just below the distributor if it is the 2.5L GT, in which case the reservoir is shared with the brake fluid reservoir. Be aware that a full top off may be required in order to fill the clurch.
I would also point out the something may have made it past the shift boot and down into the mechanism. I would examine that as well, by paying attention to its operation while maneuvering it. I own a 93GT and I've seen both issues.

The brake master cylinder is separate from the clutch master cylinder. both have separate resaviors.

Sounds like there is likely a master cylinder or slave cylinder leak. These are the two that push the hydraulic fluid to the clutch mechanism and sequentially the slave cylinder after getting the pressure of the forced fluid to it from the master, it forces the rod out of it the move the clutch mechanism so that the clutch engages and disengages the engine/trans.
also check if you have a brake line leak as the brake fluid reservoir shares its fluid with the clutch master cylinder. If enough of the fluid is being drained out of the brake reservoir so that you are pumping air into the clutch slave cylinder, but still have enough in the reservoir to have the brakes working, then you should check that as well. I however think its likely either the clutch master or slave.

2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V clutch sticking and hard shifting

I am dealing with a very similar issue on my 03 Spec V , So far i noticed the clevis pin was loose and the locking hitch pin that slips thru it had fallen out . this caused the gears to not wanna engage due to the bolt behind the clevis which runs to the master cylinder was not getting pressed in when i pushed the clutch pedal in because the clevis pin was slippin on n off giving me no pressure up top .. I had to remove my lower dash panel in order to get visual n hand access to this pin , it is a tight spot to work in as well . May be easist to remove the 4 14mm bolts that hold yur driver seat in to give ya more room to work n stretch out ur arms

1997 ford probe manual transmission problem. I was driving in 4th gear when all of a sudden the car felt like gears where griding. It didn't have the really lound noise as if you didn't put it fully in...

well we could just lie and tell you what you want to hear but that wont help you... did you smell anything when this happend, if you lost a spring in the clutch plate this is what could happen.. but im speculating at the moment with out seperating the engine and trani..
that is where i would start, dont put the trani in the grave befor you see if it has a heartbeat, check things out a little more before panicing.
try putting the clutch in and putting in gear as you strat the car see if it will go in gear, my gut says you may have a clutch problem but you need to test a bit more before i can say for sure...
good luck please post comments if you have more info for me to chew on.
