My key is not sending power to the starter to start my car but if you jump the starter the car will start

I replaced the starter and also the ignition switch and rekeyed the tumbler so i can still use my original key. i also rewired all the wires up under the dash with new wiring. the car started several times with no problem until we shut it off to put the dashboard on. once it was on we tried starting the car and it wouldn't start.

You might need to do relearn process activated by theft detterant system. If you have any security light on that are flashing turn key to start but don't crank for ten min and it should learn if light is on steady have a short some where and then you can do relearn

SOURCE: ignition problem, won't start

Your battery may have reversed polarity. The same thing happened to me in my '94 GMC Sonoma. One crank and then nothing except my (+) battery terminal got so hot it almost caught fire. There is no way to test for reversed polarity and even on Autozone's test machine, they swore up and down my battery was good. They refused to warranty it, so I bought another battery. Once installed, my truck ran like a dream again. I took my battery to a different autozone and they warrantied it.

SOURCE: I have a 1996 pontiac grand am se 2.4. Have a new

Its probably the factory security system. It disables the starter. If you turn the key to the run position without cranking there is a light that says "security" in your dash cluster. If it is flashing, your car will not start. Turn your key to the run position for 10 minutes or until the security light stops flashing, then turn the key off. Repeat this step three times then try to start your car.

SOURCE: I have a 95 firebird.

It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down and so do the keys causing security fail. 2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix... If anything on this page helps you, please remember to comment or give me a thumbs up on the myfixya sight so i can have a better rating to help more people on this. Thanks

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.
----- http://vats.likeabigdog.com/

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. If you do buy this, please purchase it thru this link. The cost is the same, but i get credit for the sale and im trying to earn my money back, as you will be able to do if you buy fron NewRockies and join the free affiliate program. Thanks
----- http://newrockies.ca?ap_id=judd0081 ----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites.

It works for:
Any GM or Isuzu Vehicle with VATS or PASSKey or PASSLock security systems.
If your car has the chip in the key or in the lock cylinder, then you can save it with this Full Bypass.

How do you test with a multi meter that your scooter stator is giving power to your starters solinoid

The solenoid doesn't send power to the coil, it sends power to the starter. The key switch is what powers the coil. As long as the key is on, the ignition system should be energized and you should be able to jump out the solenoid to start the scooter.

2005 Jeep Liberty will not start no click no noise rather new battery. starts with jump but will not turn off even removed the key. replaced the power relay. still no start. newer battery.

Did you check the starter motor relay , location , under hood power distribution center ? When you turn the key to start the ignition switch sends a 12 volt input to the PCM / ECM - engine computer . The engine computer will then energize the starter motor relay . This is all computer controlled . Hooking up a scan tool to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes an viewing input data should be the first in diagnosing a problem like this .

I replaced the battery, alternator, starter in my 1997 Buick Le Sabre & but it doesn't start unless I get a jump.

you have perhaps corrosion or loose connections at the battery. if you see corrosion brush it away or pour a soda solution on the corrosion. coca cola or any carbonated soft drink has enough soda to burn off corrosion

Battery hot wire hot at solenoid but no fire at start switch. Can jump solenoid and it will turn over. What do I look for?

The start switch ? Do you mean the starter relay your jumping the solenoid on the starter and it starts right but when your in the vehicle and you turn the key you get nothing right if this is correct the starter relay is no good when you turn your key in the steering column lock that moves the ignition switch on the steering column sending voltage to the relay then the relay sends it to the solenoid which then powers up the stater motor then it cranks the engine//// so the relay is bad

My car won't start, power to everything up until you turn the key the last bit.

Could be: park netural switch, battery, battery cable, starter or just battery connections. check the b. connections first. Have you tried to jump it?
Check for power to the starter by having somebody else try to start it while you check for power there. If there is power replace starter if not check the above.

2000 chev wont start at key

From the ignition switch there is a yellow wire that is for the starter. probe it when trying to start. If you have no voltage replace the switch. Also, I believe there is a fusible link in the wire by the starter. It will be a different color than purple. Probe on the back side of it to see if there is voltage at start up. If so, replace with the smae color link.

2006 Cobalt ss will not start

The key is chiped , does it have a padlock an car symbol light on the instrument cluster when you turn the key on ? Do the headlamps work ? shine bright ? Do you have a volt meter ? Check battery voltage . Go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on electrical distribution , under subsystem click on power distribution . Check power at the crank relay , plus you need to know what happens when you turn that key to start . Computers involved .Do you know about relays ?

Moving the ignition switch to the START position signals the body control module (BCM) through discrete inputs from the ignition transducer that engine crank has been requested. The BCM verifies that theft is not active and sends a serial data message to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) requesting engine start. The ECM/PCM receives a 12-volt signal from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch or clutch pedal start switch notifying that it is safe to start the engine. There is a splice on this circuit in the fuse block-underhood that supplies power for the starter relay coil. The starter relay coil control circuit is then grounded by the ECM/PCM closing the switch in the starter relay suppling 12 volts to the S-trminal of the starter. Ground is supplied through the engine block.
A scan tool of professional type would be a good tool to have to diagnose this .

The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system functions are provided by the theft deterrent module (TDM). When an ignition key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder and the ignition is switched ON, the transponder embedded in the head of the key is energized by the exciter coils surrounding the ignition lock cylinder. The energized transponder transmits a signal that contains its unique value, which is received by the TDM. The TDM then compares this value to a value stored in memory. This is the learned key code. If the value is correct, the TDM sends a random generated number to the transponder. This is called a challenge. Both the transponder and the TDM module perform a calculation on the challenge. If the calculations match, the TDM sends the start enable message via the serial data circuit to the engine control module (ECM). If either the transponders unique value or the calculation to the challenge is incorrect, the TDM will send the start disable message to the ECM via the serial data circuit. The components of the VTD system are as follows:
• TDM
• ECM
• Ignition key (Transponder)
• Ignition lock cylinder
• Security indicator

Is the light on . when trying to start the vehicle ?

My '97 Geo Metro LSi will not start. When I turn the ignition key on the buzzer, idiot lights, lights, horn, etc., everything electrical will work. If I turn ignition key to start, there is absolutely no...

It could be the starter, test the small wire going to the starter, it should have power when turning the key to start/crank. If it does, and the starter will not crank the engine, whack it with a hammer, if it then starts, replace the starter. If there is no power to the starter, then it could be the ignition switch, or the neutral switch, or a fuse/link blown.

1990 fleetwood starting prob.turn key nothing i can hear fuel pump the relays click i can jump starter. but nothing changed starter it was on its way out checked all fuses cheked all fuse links cheked key...

I would check the ignition switch. With a test light, check the small wire going to the solenoid for power when someone turns the key to the starting position. If you aren't getting power to that terminal on the starter, the ignition switch is not sending power to the solenoid.

Pontiac Sunfire '95 wont start

Sounds like the ignition switch has gone out. Take a service manual and follow the instructions on testing the ignition switch.
