Question about 2002 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

My Toyota will idle rough at first then smooth out after a minute or two. There is a severe hesitation when the gas pedal is pressed. I have hooked a laptop to it and found that the fuel trim is 23% when the idle smooths out. I figured this meant a vacuum leak so I replaced the intake manifold gasket, throttle body gasket, and the vacuum lines. Still acts exactly the same, please help!

Do you have a check engine light on I suggest you try looking at the oil control valve which controls your idling

sounds like your throttle positioning sensor is not set right so i would undo the two phillips heads that hold it and turn it till the idle doesnt fluctuate should be turned most of the way to the front of the truck. Also check your idle screw that throttle body could be set different.

SOURCE: CEL Code 71, V-6 engine.

This code can mean no EGR flow is detected, manually open the valve and see if the engine starts to stall, if it doesn't you have a plugged EGR exhaust gas passage

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator may be leaking....Pull the vacuum line off and check for fuel.

2007 Land Cruiser stalls to idle and non responsive to gas pedal

Had exact same problem after driving 120 miles in Florida heat. After 30 minutes started but ran rough for a day and now seem fine. Thought at first fuel filter or dirty gas. Going to replace filter anyway. Is this a common problem?
