97 f-350 auto trany with OD button on shifter. I replaced shift button on shifter but still no light coming on indicating OD off. Trany still feels like it's in OD.

Overdrive Control Switch
The overdrive control switch is located in the instrument
panel. In the On position, automatic shifts
into fourth gear overdrive will occur. In the Off position,
the switch overrides the powertrain control module
preventing a shift to overdrive fourth gear range.
The switch has an indicator light that illuminates
when overdrive is turned off. The switch also resets
when the ignition key is turned to the OFF position
so that the automatic overdrive feature is restored. The use of fault codes is employed to help diagnose
the electronic components that operate the overdrive
unit and torque converter clutch.
i assume that you have a sentra 1997 automatic transmission. OD orange light on your dash means that your overdrive is not engaged meaning your sentra is not on fuel efficient mode.
solution: in your automatic stick shift, driver side is a button just below the T bar. press that button until the OD light dissapears on your dash. you're now in overdrive mode.
sorry to say this trans has to be removed and rebuilt seems like od clutches burnt out-do you tow heavy trailer with truck as you have to tow with od off(push button on shifter)
The ETC switch is a transmission control device. When it is not active, the transmissions shifts normally. When the ETC is engaged, it alters the shift points.
Example: the 1-2 upshift occurs normally between 18-20 mph. Now, say you are towing something, or are carrying a heavy load...engage the ETC, and the trans computer will "hold" the 1-2 upshift until 22-24 mph. It is just for that, prolonging the shift points, due to load.
The switch on the side of the shifter is for the Overdrive. Engaged (the OD light is off) the transmission shifts into overdrive. This saves you gas. When the button is dis-engaged (the OD OFF light is on) , the transmission does NOT shift into overdrive. It is best to leave the overdrive ON, and the ECT OFF to obtain maximum fuel mileage. I hope this has answered your question. Please feel free to comment back if you have any other questions. Thanks for chosing FixYa for assistance.
There is a small button on the gear shifter. This is the OverDrive switch. When the button is depressed "IN", the overdrive system is active, and the light on the dash is off. When the button is OUT, the overdrive system is de-activated, and the light on the dash is illuminated. The OverDrive is basically the final shift of the transmission, which gives you maximum fuel economy. When the light on the dash is ON, the OD is "OFF", the transmission will not make its final shift, and will lower your fuel economy. It is best to leave the button IN, and have the OD system active. Hope this helps, and Thanks for Choosing FixYa. The graciousness of a "FixYa" rating for my solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for allowing me to help you with your issue.
this could mean there is a problem with the transmission, but most times when OD light is flashing it is because the wiring to the OD switch is broken.
is the OD switch on the end of the gear shift lever ?
or does your vehicle have the shifter on console between seats ?
