How do i know if my suspension compressor is bad on my 2001 cadillac deville?

I can hear the compressor when I start my car and it seems to be good when there is nothing in the trunk or no rear passengers. But if there are rear passengers or something in the trunk the rear of the vehicle gets very low almost covering the tires. I don't know if I need to replace just the compressor or the entire rear suspension. I have been researching and found that replacing the entire suspension is very costly. I've also been reading about changing it to a non air suspension system. Please someone give me a good solution, I'm going on a long trip in a month and I need this problem fixed. Thank you.

If the front stays up the compressor is working
what you have indicates the ride levelling valves to the rear are not working properly
you can test the compressor by attaching a pressure gage to the outlet side

SOURCE: My 98 Cadillac DeVille rear air suspension system

Common problem on all air suspension vehicles. It could be that there is a hairline crack in one of the shock bladders or that the pump is just too weak to pump up to it's intended pressure, a sensor or solenoid could also be bad.

Whenever I run into this problem I order a spring conversion kit for that vehicle, it is usually not worth spending $3000+ to repair the suspension.

www.Strutmasters.com sells the best kits, $327.00 for the rear. It also comes with a resistor so that your suspension light is not on.

SOURCE: Low rear suspension on my 1999 Cadillac DeVille

Do you hear your compressor running? It may be that it is getting tired and ready to burn out on you. I replaced the compressor twice on my Deville before I found that there were so many holes and nicks in the air bags and it was going to cost me almost $1500 to fix the whole system. I went online and found Strutmasters. I got a non air conversion kit for my car and love it. Saved me money and headache.

SOURCE: rear air suspension problem on a 95 deville. i

In my opinion the air ride suspension is one of automobile's biggest mistakes. I see this a lot.

The first thing you must do is isolate the problem.

Jack up the back of the car and remove the rear wheels.

Now your shocks are visible. Inspect the rubber boots in the midsection of the shock, If this is worn or torn they will need to be replaced as they dry out once the integrity of the boot is jeopardized.

Next turn the key forward to turn in the compressor that you hear. And follow the thin black air lines that run into the side of the shock. A lot of times, especially on a vehicle this age, these lines will at some point rub on the frame or other item and have holes. Just listening for air leaks and running your fingers along the lines (feeling for bumps or holes) will give you a quick answer on this.

The only thing left in the system is the compressor itself, just remove the air lines from the shocks and as the compressor runs feel the end for air pressure. If you feel it the compressor is working.

Once you have isolated the issue your vehicle faces, feel free to come back and ask for assistance in replacing them. Be thourough and check everything though because 1 bad element will make future problems inevitable.

Please feel free to rate my answer and come on back to FixYa anytime.

SOURCE: Is it better and cheaper to replace rear air suspension to non-air suspension on a 1997 Cadillac DeVille?

It will run about the same, there is a good web site we deal with that sells conversion kits or the air components needed to repair your car, we use them all the time. There pricing is good and also have all parts needed.
Your car may just need air bags, but have run into many cars that the air bags had been leaking for a while and were left not repaired causing the air compressor to run so much that it overheated and cooked the compressor and relay. This is hard to say on yours without looking at it. if the air shocks air leaking then you will need to start with that and then if the car does not lift then you will need to check the fuse and relay, if there are good or replaced and still no air is made then compressor will need replacing.
http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_CADILLAC_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid6_pid35.htmlthe compressor is 175.00 and the two shocks are 275.00.
I did not see a conversion kit for this car. take a look at site and see if you can locate one. good day.

Why is my cadillac rear so low

You may have a leak in the rear air bags or the compressor for the air bags is not working, listen when you turn on the key to see if you can hear the compressor run ,if you do then likely the bags,if not then likely the compressor.
