This car has the 3800 engine. car ran out of gas a few weeks ago and now when it is idleing it is very rough and acts like it wants to stall
SOURCE: rough idle
fuel filters rarley cause idle problems. i would look at the egr valve or possible vaccume leaks.
SOURCE: Car starts then stalls once the engine warms up.
You need new timing belt and gears. Buicks gears are made of plastic, and become a big glob. Nothing for the timing belt to grab onto.

U DON'T HAVE A CARBURETOR SO FORGET THAT, THE FUEL REGULATOR WOULD NOT CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I AM A GM FACTORY TECH AND KNOW THIS WITH CERTAINTY. U COULD HAVE SLUDGE IN THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL AIRBYPASS VALVE.
SOURCE: Buick Century 97 runs rough and stutters when cold and gas applie
start by replacing the plugs and plug wires, this is esp true if car has over 100,000 miles on it. damp air can make the problem worse.
Testimonial: "helpful"
SOURCE: ENGINE IDLES ROUGH, BUT RUNS FINE WHILE DRIVING
Check all vacuum lines for leaks. Check spark plug wires for and spark plugs that may be worn and causing idle misfire.

Manifold air intake boot was cracked, we replaced that hoping engine was getting to much air. But that did not change anything. And you can really smell gas after starting and after turning car off
