2001 Chrysler Town & Country Sliding Door Harness

The sliding door wiring on my 2001 Chrysler Town & Country has finally quit working all together (with the help of the Chrysler Dealership). They want $500 to replace the door harness. I have seen several posting of people fixing the problem themselves, but I am unable to find the part anywhere. Can someone please direct me to a company that I can purchase a new sliding door harness? Thanks

Are you sure it's the harness, or is it the motors themselves? I have the motors for my 2001 T&C sitting on my desk right now and found the problem and fixed them. If you have some technical ability, it really isn't too hard.

You need to remove the old harness and open it up then repair the broken wires this will save the old harness and what the other people are talking about

SOURCE: My 2001 Chrysler Town & Country passenger sliding door won't open

your door panel can come off and you can access internal door locking mechanism from inside car first inspect to see all rods are hooked into plastic sleeves then make sure lock is disengaged by pulling rod towards rear of van it should then be able to be opened easily if not your locking mechanism is frozen inside of door between a pillar and door it will have to be pushed to open from inside of door panel once you do that door will open if you cant make lock work manually once this is done replace locking mechanism or rods accordingly.

Take a look at end of door where latch is & post where the 2 meet when closed. Look for round metal button/contacts, about 1/2" in diameter. If you look close, they should line up to make contact with each other when door is closed. Take some fine steel wool (preferred) or fine sandpaper and scuff them up until you see metal is clean on both surfaces. Now try it, and let me know what happens.

SOURCE: Power door lock inoperable on passenger sliding door only

Not sure if they are same on 2006 but there should be a couple of small rounded metal contacts, or similar, on door that meet with door post to complete the connection. When you find them, clean them off with a little fine steel wool or SOS pad, minus the soap, and see if that doesn't cure it.

2001 Chrysler Town & Country Drivers Sljding door won't open

I'm sorry to say but, these doors are very very complex and unless you have worked on several of them before, I must suggest bring it to a dealership. Believe me when I say this, I am a mechanical engineer and have come close to pulling my hair out while working on auto or manual sliding doors. Sorry, Thanks, Dana.

Auto sliding door wont completely open or close from the home possition. The door opens half way and the door closes half way.

The wire harness/track assembly below the door needs replaced. It is a fairly simple operation that can be done in your driveway or garage. If you have any questions on how to replace feel free to ask.

2006 town and country passanger sliding door problem

I've leased two Town and Country vans over the past 4 years, and actually purchased the latest one after the lease. In both vans the sliding doors, normally the drivers side, reacted teh same way. If the door was closed it would open, stop a one point, and then return to the open position. At times I could get it close. But over time the doors stoped working all together.

It is not due to the switch or the motor. Most cases like this (in in both of mine) it is due to the repetitive use of that door, and the realitive inflexibility of the wire harness. Over time, and with more uses (in my case the driver side sliding door was used alot) the wire in the harness fails. Picture it as a willow branch. One snapped off of a tree it first is green and flexible, and bends pretty well into any form. But over time, with age and repetitive bending, it will break.

The only recourse is a new harness, as the wire/wires are broken somewhere in the harness (the belt chain in the lower track of the door). I was temped to take it apart and try to repair it myself, but as the parts were under warranty (I have the extended 85,000 mile), I opted to have the professionals handle it. The repair without the warranty is under $200 typically (parts and labor). Good luck.
