SOURCE: 97 Dodge Caravan Auto-Shutdown Problem

Been working on my dad's 97 Caravan longer then i can remember for things you mentioned and have been not able to get him to sell it.
I found that the electrical connections are prone to corrosion and have replaced lots of the wire and pin connection in the wire harness, thank god i have time on my hands.
The instrument panel where the wire harness connects, i found that the solder goes bad and i had to re solder the connector on the back side of the circuit board, where the harness goes so you need to remove the instrument panel from the dash,
Here is a link that can help you retrieve DTC codes and do research on your caravan. I'ld tell you everything what i needed to do to keep my dad's caravan running but that would be a novel. http://www.allpar.com/fix/stall.html

Good luck and keep me posted, glad to help you keep yours running too.

SOURCE: 2002 dodge caravan dash lights

in the fuse panel under the hood beside the battery there is a fuse marked IOD in your nearest right hand corner facing the vehicle. Pull the fuse, wait 3 min. Reinstall fuse.

No kiddin'. That's it.

SOURCE: 1992 dodge caravan electrical

Check this and see if yours has the same problem!
The main cable going to the under-hood fuse box was rubbing against the metal bracket that the fuse box mounts on. Can we say poor electrical layout?? It had rubbed the sheathing off the cable and had broken one wire (the one supplying power to the instrument panel.) So I fixed that and cut a section of rubber hose and put it over the bracket to help prevent such events from occurring in the future.

SOURCE: Have hazard lights but no running or turn signals

sounds like you need a combo flasher assembly..located in fuse block inside vehicle under steering column..there may be a plastic cover under dash you have to remove to see fuse block..large black relay that plugs into fuse block..if you pick up a new one,you will see what it looks like..available at dodge dealer..combo flasher or drl/signal relay

SOURCE: Faulty Body Control Module

_SetupBidi('source'); good that can be replaced and the cost varies from one state to another if you succeed in disarming a car you can go look for the less code that has the BCM and get an equal or the same because the final numbers would not you work

The body control module seems to be the culprit here. Have it tested or replaced.

Gauges in dash not working

this is a very common problem, and it can be 2 things. 1 instrument cluster needs to be replace. all of them are made with led set up and burn out causing not to work. the other is the body control module that is plugged into the fuse box under the dash. the body control module runs every thing inside the caravan.. I see a lot of these problems coming in my garage

Why are my meter and speedometer is not work on my 2000 dodge caravan

Bad wiring in the gauge cluster (the "dash board"). You can 1: Live with it, 2: buy a new one for $500 or 3:pick one up at the junk yard for maybe $85. or you can have someone go through yours and possibly find the bad wire and re sodder... It's a loose grounding wire.

"while driving the 1999 dodge grand caravan,

There is a known problem with dash cluster solder cracking in some of the Dodge vehicles in and around that year. I would recommend removing the dash cluster and re-heating solder on the main connector joints on opposite side of circuit board/cluster. Use a small soldering gun to be more precise where you re-heat. Simply hold tip on spot until you see it puddle again, then let cool. I did them all to be safe, but you may see the cracked one or few by simply looking close with magnifying glass or similar. If you google it, there are even videos out there as well as pictures to help. ( dodge dash cluster soldering ) is one thing to google.

Gauges on dash dont work what fuse shaould i replace

You'll find a dash board fuse under the dash itself on the bottom end of the body control module (bcm). If this fuse is fine, and your gauge problem is somewhat erratic, or if you have having other dash problems with idiot lights of odometer led's, then I would suspect the instrument cluster main wire connector pins. Let me know and I can provide some guidance. Googling "voyager dash gauge problem solder" will likely find some informative posts on this solution as well.

My 1997 dodge caravan will start then it will die when this happens none of the gages work, also when i am driving it the gages will quit working help this has left me sitting with the kids in the car

The instrument cluster needs to be replaced. However, it'll have to be removed to determine the color of the plug in the back. 1997 is usually red. If you hit the dash above the instrument cluster (with the key in the run position) you'll see the gauges come on (sometimes it has to be hit a few times) and it'll get you where you have to go. I only suggest hitting it a a diagnostic technique of to get you back home. I hope I've helped. You can check my testimonials if this seems somewhat unorthodox. I'll admit that it is, but it works. The instrument cluster contacts most likely have small cracks in them. Do the lights on the temperature controls flash also? Thanks for using Fixya. Please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial.

I have a 1997 dodge caravan sport 3.3L. recently all my gauges stopped working, classic clock spring problem. however when i brought it to the dealer to be fixed they said it wasnt the clock spring. a few...

The plugs that connect the meter to the dash get mini=r diconnections and the battery cables get into problems near the battery. The wires near the battery that connect to the body grounds need all to be checked ( remove and clean and reassemble grinding off paint and dirt and after tighting repainted) Theirs lots of ground points and most that I've fixed are just like your dealer did they just took it all apart and assembled it all again the connection ( they did;nt know which one was then good and the car passed to be Ok and they returned it to you and said good luck. The connections at the intrument cluster have provin to be the problem and I've replupped in a few and they stayed good and still others seem to chase all over and then you put it together go home and tery it in the morning and everything si back to normal. Then you can't tell how well it was repaired but you can't tell if it's going to stay fixed. the circuit boards go bad in the instrument panel and the conn links fail and act the same way. If you can replug in the cluster and even make it work OKay for even a minute then you know that the ecm and the other computers aren't the cause the cluster circit board or the Bannister, MI,lug needs fixed andf the cluster plugs are the most common.

1999 dodge caravan intermittent instrument cluster

This Seems Indicative Of a Poor Connection AT The CLUSTER Or A Junction Connecter Close to the Cluster. This is Assuming you Have Ruled OUT ALL ABS COMPONENTS, LOOK at These VERY CLOSLY Because of the Small Volts These Wires Carry , the SMALLEST DEFECT WILL Cause this Type of Symptom that you have given. Please try all of the Above, I feel Confedint that athis is where your Problem Is.
