Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE
I have tried the fuel filter the fuel pump relay the battery, my car still won't start. Can the fuel pump still be bad if I can hear it kick on or am I missing something I also checked the schrader valve and it just squirts out like a squirt gun. Its not a mist so I know there is barely any pressure
The best way to tell is hook it up to a fuel pressure gauge and see if it has the specified pressure for your vehicle.

What you need to do is have an assistant turn the key on (not try to start, just turn the key on) while you have the gas cap removed and your ear down by the gas tank fill tube. When they turn the key on you should hear a whirl only for 3-7 seconds. If you hear nothing more than likely you will need to change your fuel pump. Attempt this test on several tries at different times several hours apart before you **** your tank out to give it ample time to relieve any fuel pressure that may be built up thus causing your pump not to respond. BUT, if you are not getting any fuel you are not getting any pressure built up so it should be making some sound. How many miles do you have on this vehicle? 9 times out of 10, sorry to say, you'll be replacing the fuel pump. It sounds like to me that you have thourouly checked every other possible thing. Good luck my friend. Let us know how you come out.

On most cars there is a shut off button so if the car gets hit it stops the fuel from coming out. it is usually located in the trunk. there will be a relay button somewhere on the left or right side of the panel. there should be a notice that reads emergency shut off button. push in on that button and see if that don't work. If that button is pushed in then take the fuel line off before the fuel filter and have someone turn the key on. It only takes a few seconds for the fuel to come out. If you have fuel coming out than put the fuel line back on and take off the fuel line after the filter and see if you have the same amount of fuel coming out. you might have a clogged fuel filter.I hope this helps. If not let me know i have some more test that you can do.

yep i seen it in happen .i was at a gas station a guy drove car to the gas station on empty.he fill his tank up .could not get it to crank .some cars you have to restart fuel pump when run out of gas. like chrysler.you use a scanner. but chervrolet you run low over heat damage the pump.it has to stay submerge gas to keep it cool. check fuel pump pressure.it should be 41 - 47 psi.

I had the same problem all of these models do, but GM wont recall them. Here is what you do if you have not yet, turn to key to on but don't start the engine all the lights in the dash will go on, when they turn back off see if your security light stays on or blinks. If it does its your Pass Lock security system. You can reprogram it using the key, take the key out then put it back in the ignition move it all the way to ON but don't turn on the engine when the lights in the dash go out turn the key back to the ACC position leave it there for ten minutes the light should turn off after about ten min. then turn the key to the OFF position pull it out about 1/4 of the way then push it in and start it up. If this is the problem you may have to do this any time it does not start up.
