My air conditioner blows hot air and my heater blows cold air. The heater will warm up after the engine has been running for awhile but when I turn the air conditioner on it takes power away from the engine but it still blows hot air. This happened all at the same time after I noticed a little tapping noise coming from the lower part of the dash.

  • Anonymous Apr 04, 2012

the noise was more like something tapping on the fan blades as it turned but it didn't happen all the time and one day it was fine then the next day it made the tapping noise and the ac and heater didn't work right. The heater never blows hot only warm.

  • Anonymous Apr 07, 2012

the blower works just fine it is only the temp of the air from the heater and the air conditioner that is not right... heater too cold and air conditioner too hot...

Check your blower motor under the passenger side of the dash, round plastic box three screws pull it out something might have fallen though your cowl and chewed up the fan blades. as for the ac your r-12 is probly empty or has a leak bring it to a local garage and have them flush and fill your cooling system. heater would be your thermostat not openig properly, by far your cheapest fix under ten dollar part.

SOURCE: Help! Air conditioner causes squeal soon after turned on

The ac is belt driven, If one of the belts are loose it will make a squealing noise. Turning on the air puts more strain on the belts. If this is the case all you would have to do is tighten the belt or belts. This would probably take a service tech just a few minutes. Probably under $100.00 dollars..........

Either a faulty thermostat or air in the system. Bleed the system and you still have no heater then get a new thermostat put in.

SOURCE: 2004 toyota celica will not blow hot air for twenty minutes

If the engine temprature does not reach the normal level as it used to, it may be the coolant thermostat.

Iif it does, it could be air diverter gates not working properly, cold air blowing at a a light could point to that. The diverter gates are located under the dash.

It also coul be the valuve that controls the water to the heater core, but unlikely cause of the cold air at a light.

Heater not warming up

Most likely the thermostat broke. I expect that you have an older Hyundai and never had the anti-freeze changed. When the engine is cold the thermostat is closed which causes the engine to warm up more quickly. A warm engine runs more efficiently (less gas) and more smoothly. When the engine temp reaches a certain temp the thermostat opens and then allows the hot engine coolant to run through the lines to the heater core. The heater blows air over the heater core which produces the warm air that warms up the cabin. Thermostats used to be cheap and easy to change. I would suggest a web search for how to replace the thermostat. Something like 'hyundai accent 2002 replace thermostat".

Left Vents blow warm/hot air when calling for cold air

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door under the dash.
The blend doors direct air thru the ac and heater core along with the upper and lower vents.

No heat air is blowing cold

First you have to identify what causes the problem.
To do this you have to:
1) When engine is cold check the level of coolant. If it is low fill it up.
2) Start engine and check if engine reaches regular temperature. If your engine is not heated enough it means your thermostat does not work properly and should be replaced.
3) If engine temperature is normal, then check the temperature of pipes that go to/from heater core. These pipes are located up the fire wall (easier access is from the passenger side). If pipe/pipes are cold (even engine is worm) it means you heater core is plugged and should be flushed. Keep in mind, flushing the whole cooling system is different from flushing heater core.
4) If pipe/pipes are hot/warm, turn off the fan, switch controller to the hot position, wait for 3-4 minutes and turn on the fan. Note if the cold air blows first or warm air blows first but it cools down in 5-10 seconds. If the air blows cold than it is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator.
5) If air blows warm first and then cools down, then while running engine and remaining the transmission in PARKING position, press on the gas pedal until your engine reaches 3,000 RPM. Check if your heater blows warm/hot air. If it does, then your water pump does not work properly and should be replaced. If the air still cold, I would suggest to flush the heater core.

Nissan Altima no cool air blowing or hot air blowing

Hi!
It appears we have an Air lock scenario and you will need to perform a system Bleed.
Park the vehicle on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle, turn heater on full and blower to max. When engine reaches operating temperature watch and listen near coolant filler, keep clear as gurgling and hopefully a boil over should occur. Top up with very warm coolant and wait as it may do it again.
Check for heat inside vehicle if warm replace coolant cap but keep an eye on temperature gauge as the ~Air lock may have moved on from heater matrix/core so proceedure needs to be carried out again from COLD.
